Well then it sounds like I’ll be holding on to my bootleg blu-ray with the original audio/soundtrack a little while longer!

If the LD had the alternate audio as well, then I guess I've never had the proper version with all the songs. I'll still purchase it since it's the version I previously had, though it'd be great to have gotten to hear the intended soundtrack.

All home video versions, including the LD, are unfortunately rescored.

There’s no equation in which you get the original soundtrack. It’s an obscure movie. It only had a DVD-R release two decades after the format’s debut and is now only getting a Blu-ray release from a company that seems to exist to release the dregs of licensing-friendly studios.

On top of that, refusing to buy the releases without the expensive licensed soundtrack only stands to drive the film further into obscurity.

It’s better to accept this one. They’re never going to pay the exorbitant expense and jump through all the hoops to restore Stairway to Heaven in Wayne’s World? Or to re-instate the libelous comment about Alan Ladd in Wonder Boys? Do you refuse to buy The Devil’s Advocate because they had to remove those unauthorized sculptures?

I want the original soundtrack. I think the first post about this movie on this forum is from me asking if the original soundtrack would be included. It’s not ever going to be included and boycotting this release won’t change that.

That's a shame about the original soundtrack, however I will still be picking this up day 1. This is an amazing and overlooked 80's teen movie, and the music changes are not on par with what they did with The Outsiders Blu Ray.

The music changes in the Wild Life I do not feel completely change or ruin the movie experience.

You also know that The Outsiders will likely get a 4K release at some point, where this may be the only HD release we get of The Wild Life in a very long time.

So show your support, please!

What are the changes in the soundtrack?

Years ago I remember seeing a film print for sale on Ebay with Valley Girl having all original soundtrack intact. Why I didn't buy it I will never know. I always wanted to know if it was ever transferred.

HBO broadcasts are usually the way to get it right.

Major pass here.

Quote:
The film's soundtrack included music by the likes of Prince, Madonna, Little Richard, Van Halen, Billy Idol, Steppenwolf, and Jimi Hendrix. Music licensing fees have prevented The Wild Life from receiving an uncut release on DVD. Universal formerly offered a made-to-order disc in its Vault series, with many of the songs removed.[3]

The alternate soundtrack replaced these songs:
Charlie Sexton's "It's Not Easy" [used when Eric Stoltz tells a bowler "Lady, please don't disturb league lanes"]
The Three O'Clock's "I Go Wild" [used when Jenny Wright tells Lea Thompson "You said you wanted an adventure" when they are in the car together]
Madonna's "Burning Up" [used when Ashley St. Jon is stripping during the strip club scene]
Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It" [used when Kitten Natividad is stripping during the strip club scene]
Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe" [used when Ilan Mitchell-Smith is laying down on the pavement in front of the car]
Prince's "Dirty Mind" [used when Christopher Penn is carrying beer and straightening the poster on the wall during the party scene at the end]
Billy Idol's "(Do Not) Stand In The Shadows" [used when the Michael Jackson impersonator with the Pepsi can is shown on-screen during the party scene at the end]
Peter Wolf's "Oo-Ee-Diddley-Bop" [used when Sherilyn Fenn tells Christopher Penn "I just think you'd tell everybody" during the party scene at the end]

Little Richard's "Heebie Jeebies" used during the fight at the strip club was not replaced.
Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady" used during the Ilan Mitchell-Smith boombox bowling scene was not replaced.

Song Replacements:
Charlie Sexton's "It's Not Easy" was replaced with silence.
The Three O'Clock's "I Go Wild" was replaced with Eddie Van Halen music.
Madonna's "Burning Up" was replaced with Van Stephenson's "Make It Glamorous".
Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It" was replaced with Little Richard's "Slippin' And Slidin'".
Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe" was replaced with Eddie Van Halen music.
Prince's "Dirty Mind" was replaced with Eddie Van Halen music.
Billy Idol's "(Do Not) Stand In The Shadows" was replaced with Eddie Van Halen music.
Peter Wolf's "Oo-Ee-Diddley-Bop" was replaced with Eddie Van Halen music.

When Universal created the alternate soundtrack for VHS/Laserdisc/TV broadcast, they also revised the end credits and removed the songs that were replaced on the soundtrack. Universal's "Vault Series" DVD-R didn't use these revised end credits even though it used the alternate soundtrack.

More recently, the HD broadcast version has all of the songs intact.[4]

If you didn't see the movie in theaters...and basically nobody did....then nobody is really going to miss those songs being gone. And most of them are just background filler. Its not like they have a dramatic connection with what's happening onscreen.

I appreciate KL even releasing this movie to begin with seeing as it was a huge bomb and doesn't have much of a following. If people want to pass strictly because it doesn't have a soundtrack that has never been intact on home video ever, that seems ill advised. There won't be another release of this no matter what you do.

The entire movie used to be on youtube for a long time and most of the music was Eddie Van Halen stuff that was basically instrumental demo versions of songs that would later appear on the Hagar albums. Then I saw (and recorded) an HD broadcast late at night some years ago and I noticed the music was different, not as much Van Halen stuff. I'm assuming that's what the discussion is about. Or will this new release have yet another alternate soundtrack?

Are you kidding? The "Burnin' Up" scene alone is worth it. Kimberly Ashley from 2 Shauna Grant movies. So hard to miss. Most definetly not "filler". Same goes for Foxey Lady!

Cinemax HD Channel plays the original version with all the music intact. Madonna, Prince, Little Richard, it's all there.. that's the great thing about HD broadcasts. That broadcast was the basis for a restoration project years ago and it's out there.

I saw this film over-and-over on VHS so to me and probably to most other folks who remember this film from repeated video views, the alternate music on the VHS is the original music.

Yup and it don't look half bad at all. Me bets if Kino looks better a remux is easy as pie so long as run times match reasonably well (obviously for personal use only).

Broadcast (and now streaming) have vastly different licensing agreements than physical media based on original deals. It would likely cost millions to clear all these songs for physical release with the estates of Prince, Hendrix and Van Halen (to name just a few). Or the artists and estates could simply say no...
