VHSHITFEST has been uncovering and releasing movies on video for over a decade, across DVD and VHS, and is now moving into blu-ray, with the same goal to showcase the most unique, crazy, and obscure movies that they've discovered through years of collecting VHS, allowing even more people to actually be able to experience these nearly lost gems in the best versions possible.

Even with the 2nd capitalized “H”, I can’t not read it in my mind as “VHS Shitfest”…

Same, it's like writing "CLINT" and putting the l and i too close together... It almost makes me think they did it on purpose without having a space.

I have to imagine that was intentional.

I assumed the other meaning was intentional, and have already added a second s in my muscle memory.

There are certainly tons of movies that never made it beyond vhs. But I don't like paying $20+ for them on blu when there are such source limitations. I suppose the extras could make up for it if you're a fan. If multiple movies were included for the price of a standard single movie release, then I'd probably be more open.

I think they said the H was capitalized for Vinegar Syndrome when they became a Partner Label. Before that the joke was it said Shitfest, playing on the "Shot on Shitteo" nickname a lot of these films had.

I'm too oblivious to things because this thread is the thing that made me realize the H was even capitalized to begin with.

I hope at some point they do a release for their documentary they made called "Adjust Your Tracking" It's all about collecting VHS with some familiar faces that run a lot of these labels or do websites.

So are all of their movies SOV? I don’t see a source listed for their two Blu-ray releases

CORNSHUKKER and BLOOD HUNTER were shot on 16mm. Source material for CORNSHUKKER was a VHS due to missing original elements.

BLOOD HUNTER is likewise pulled from an existing Beta SP tape master.

Saw a vcr in a thrift shop the other day and it was tempting. I just don't need to go down that rabbit hole of collecting vhs again. I'd forgotten just how shelf bulky they are as well. The main fun was the video store experience. The journey of discovering tapes in the aisles without internet at your fingertips was more fun than owning them, imo. But if we had one of those really amazing video stores with a lot of vhs for rent, then I'd consider a membership. It seems there are only a few in the country.

I turned a spare room into my own mini video store. Over 3,000 VHS tapes in there. Never looked back. VHS on a Sony Trinitron CRT holds up really well.

Love watching a 4k disc in my main viewing room, just as much as I enjoy throwing on a VHS.

I'm with you and I know there's tons of content not on dvd/blu/4k. I'm already just so overwhelmed and out of space. Plus, open matte presentations are a fun alternate viewing and I don't need to be collecting a bunch of those as well. But vhs was where I started along with millions of others. If I had the money, it would definitely be fun to start a community video store just to bring that kind of experience to others. For many people it would even be a new experience.
