A miracle!!!!

I never thought we'd get this!

I'm assuming they'll use the 2014 restoration by the National Film & Sound Archive of Australia, which was on the OOP 2015 Fox BD there.

Based on the restoration being carried out in Australia, I think this is a case where Rupert Murdoch, who personally financed the film, retained the negative.

I hope they fix the technical error on the 2015 Aussie BD. There was a strange electronic crackling under every line of dialogue for a good portion of the movie on both the 5.1 remix and 2.0 stereo tracks. It's not there on the old Paramount DVDs, it's clearly an error that crept in in 2014 or 2015.

I rented this as a teenager on VHS and don't remember much outside of the ending, so maybe I'll check this one out again. I know a lot of people have been hoping for this for years, so about time.

That is clipping distortion from being encoded at too high an amplitude. If they lowered the volume, it would be fine.

Good news for those that don't have it. Will be interested to see the differences to the AU blu that I already have.

Great news! Now the question is...will it port over any/all Bonus Features??? I'm holding onto the two previous US DVDs for those...

That's the exact same artwork as the 2005 Collector's Edition DVD, the most recent edition until now, so I suspect it'll port over the same extras, as Paramount has done in the past with their recent DVD-BD upgrades.

The 2005 DVD left off a Weir interview that was on the ancient 1999 DVD.

I don't expect the 2022 BD will have any of the unique retrospective extras from the 2015 Australian BD, since that disc came out through Fox.

Is this one still "get-able" from anywhere? I remember looking before a bit and I think it's already scarce...?

I haven't seen it anywhere in a while, sorry. Murdoch released the film (which he owns outright, I believe, having financed it originally) in Oz through Twentieth Century-Fox Home Video, since he owned the company at the time, but he doesn't own it anymore, so the disc is long OOP.

I haven't seen any online retailers stocking it in a long, long time.

There's one copy on eBay right now insanely listed for $500 US, and copies sold on eBay for $41 in September and $131 in August.

Great announcement! Always resisted the urge to import the Australian BD for years.

I remember this movie playing on HBO back in the early '80s, but I never actually got to see it until about fifteen years ago, when I checked out the DVD from the public library. I loved the movie instantly (it has arguably one of the most unforgettable endings in all cinema) and have been waiting all these years for it to finally be released on Region A blu-ray. The wait is over. Now we just need The Year of Living Dangerously.

I really wish someone would put out a soundtrack for this. There's not a whole of of music, but the recording of Adagio In G Minor and the electronic synth track Ogygene are great.

Watched this release last night. Old master, but better looking than the DVD for sure. I haven't watched this in a dogs age, but a really good film and glad it's finally on Blu-ray, but just don't expect this to be a stunner visually.
