Why would they break a documentary into ten minute segments instead of just presenting it as an hour long doc? Is there some streaming or cable TV application for ten minute segments?

Happens all the time. They likely have certain sections of the doc that focus on pre-production, production, post, the film's legacy, etc. Not all that uncommon to have a making-of divided into several parts.

I think we're getting a pretty substantial doc here. I'll be surprised if it's less than 45 mins.

Smacks of making it sound like there's a ton of content, when it'll just be six ten-minute or less featurettes.

I'd rather have it all edited into one proper feature-length documentary, but whatevs, of course it's great we're getting any extras at all.

I believe that hour-long and longer documentaries require much higher fees for use of film clips, music, etc. That is why so many disc releases have several shorter supplemental pieces rather than one longer documentary.

Guild rules in the US require payments to participants for material longer than 30 minutes. MGM International would have the complete uninterrupted documentaries on disc for movies like Thelma & Louise and Silence of the Lambs while MGM US broke these up into multi-part pieces.

Paramount is avoiding paying more than necessary for the supplemental features.

I am still surprised we are getting a blu ray release...let along one that is based on a 4K scan, with special features, for only $15.

So who here saw this movie in theaters?

I saw it in theatres with a double feature of raiders of the lost ark.

Hey, we’re getting the movie in HD with the original audio track. Everything else is gravy.

I saw it in a theater when it was new. Later, I purchased a copy of the rare Japanese widescreen laserdisc. I think that disc had burned-in Japanese subtitles.

Ditto.

I can't believe some of the great "sneak preview" screenings we used to get. My first ever was THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD paired with THE BUCCANEER in the late 1950s.

For some reason I never saw this theatrically back then. I'm guessing my first experience must have been on HBO or something (I recall it almost got turned off on me when there was naked butt cheeks on screen), where as I easily saw Raiders a half dozen or so times that year. It's still hard to believe a movie ticket was only $1.50 back then.

Aw man, this is gonna be fantastic. Young Sherlock Holmes deserves a release like this too, dammit.

Too bad Paramount only has the rights to the film in the US. I wish they would get the rights worldwide. Face/Off and Bringing Out the Dead would also be better suited to Paramount.

So... how's the quality? I can't find a review that goes into detail.
