I never thought I'd see the day. I hope this is real. The five-second shot of the dragon trying to eviscerate the hero, who's crouched behind his fireproof dragon-scale shield, by bathing him in a fiery blast of napalm breath is better than the entirety of most fantasy movies.

Yes, Peter MacNicol. I can't take him seriously in DRAGONSLAYER, due to his resemblance to Richard Simmons. Good movie, however.

It's about time. My Paramount wants list has reduced from 50 odd to below 20 in the last few years.

Dragonslayer was the first movie I saw MacNicol in so that never bothered me.

Like a lot of people I have been waiting for this one for a long time. Day one obviously. Now I just need The Shootist.

MacNicol may have been *too* right for the part. He's meant to be an immature sorcerer's apprentice, not particularly likeable and too big for his homespun britches. I found him quite irksome when I saw DRAGONSLAYER in the theater upon initial release.

By the end of the film I could accept him as a passable boyfriend who had a severe lesson in humility, but he was mostly okay because he was such a stark contrast to most everyone else.

He certainly came off quite different in SOPHIE'S CHOICE soon after.

The 80s was notorious for (mis)casting severely contemporary young actors in period and/or fantasy projects. MacNicol here, Tom Cruise in Legend and Matthew Broderick in Ladyhawke all immediately come to mind. They bring down all three movies a notch just for how awkward they appear in their characters' costumes and derpy, wide-eyed personas.

Compared to the other two, MacNicol is a brilliant casting! I think he does a fine job; I think we tend to view him through a lens of his later work.

Yeah, I think Peter Macnicol is definitely better-cast than Tom Cruise in Legend. Peter Macnicol is SUPPOSED to be a little impy twerp, the only problem with his casting IMO is the american accent.

Where? Are you sure you're not confusing it with Dragonheart 4K that was officially announced today?

peter smeter the film has Ralph Richardson in it. Always was a fan of this movie back when it released. One of the better fantasy movies to come out in that decade. Hoping for some special features or atleast a commentary track.

I think the special effects hold up pretty well. It used go-motion for the dragon. A new technique that was invented for Empire Strikes Back.

George R.R. Martin, creator of ‘Game of Thrones’, has said that Vermithrax Pejorative is "the best dragon ever shown on film." One of the deceased dragons mentioned in the 1st season of the series by Viserys Targaryen was named "Vermithrax".

Default A good sign. Available in 4K on Vudu and iTunes now.

Also, I'm not sure when, but the HD stream on AmazonPrime has been updated since I purchased it last year. I downloaded it again today and it's in 1080p/23.976 where prior it was in 1080p/24.

I have Dragonslayer on betamax from a recording my family did of it off TV in the mid 80s, but probably haven't actually seen the film in 30 years. How well has this film aged? (from the posts so far in this thread, pretty decently).
