Could we please finally get The Muppet Show on blu-ray. Seems like something Mill Creek would release, even if it's the usual bare bones Mill Creek release, it's better than nothing at this point.

From the article:

Quote:
will distribute hundreds of select physical (Blu-ray and DVD) live-action film and television properties from the ABC Signature, 20th Television, Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, and 20th Century Studios content libraries.
That scares me a little. Makes me wonder if we will get 'new' stuff on blu-ray or just the same stuff redistributed/rereleased.

More:

Quote:
This significant partnership further builds on our studio’s substantial offering of home entertainment products that appeal to collectors and fans alike. Mill Creek will assume the role of vendor of record on certain existing titles
'Certain' existing titles make you wonder as well. I want to see stuff never released, but we will have to see what this deal entails.
Next question: When does it start?!

Good news, however, it am cautiously optimistic about this. I won't hold my breath, but it would be great if What About Bob? were finally released. I can see it now, one of those budget releases with the VHS style slipcover sitting on the shelf at my local Sunrise.

Yeah probably wishful thinking because Disney wouldn't even let Kino renew the better selling titles.

Like everyone else, I wish it were Kino instead, but I'll take anything I can get at this point. Maybe we'll finally have a shot at getting some of these:

BLOOD IN BLOOD OUT
JACK THE BEAR
DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD
13TH WARRIOR
SMILLAS SENSE OF SNOW
THREE MEN AND A BABY
BULWORTH
MYSTERY ALASKA
DEAD PRESIDENTS

Disney won't hand over any of their big properties, even the stuff they don't seem to have any interest in touching.

But maybe- just maybe...

VHS slipcover for True Lies.

On DVD.

Disney were licensing Hollywood/Touchstone titles to Mill Creek a decade ago, before the Kino deal but after Anchor Bay.

A monkey's paw wish if ever there was one... I could see a Blu-ray release of the HD butchering of Buffy the Vampire Slayer coming from this.

This shall be interesting to see how well this goes and any efforts of reasonable transfers that Disney will supply to them and if Mill Creek puts their money were their mouth is. But this is a nice announcement for back catalog to finally see the light of blu and maybe 4K

I guess that Criterion version of WALL-e really was the starter. Funny how quickly that was shot down.

Not sure about this bit, though: “Disney is a leader in the video industry"

What is the obsession the studios have with these hacks? There must be something more than $$$ at work.

If Mill Creek was smart they would release The Empty Man (2020) and Barbarian (2022). Both bafflingly didn’t get Blu-ray releases after there theatrical runs. The HD masters are right there ready to be released and Horror has always been a big seller on physical media.

Well, I'm not complaining too much.

I'm happy to see these studio libraries starting to be available again, when people thought Disney would archive them away and throw away the key a few years ago.

Also, that the Mega Streamer Giant of the Universe, who was allegedly trying to kill physical media a few years back, is now opening up to the possibilities of physical media again, is very encouraging to a collector like myself.

So, you may see room for improvement, or it could be better, and so on. But be happy, too, that it seems physical media isn't going the way of the Dodo just yet.

In fact, I'm cautiously optimistic that it's making a bit of a comeback, recently.
