That's a good point...I pass on all kinds of lousy-looking horror films at DT, but I'd spring .50 for them. Erm, maybe.

That might just be your store. In my area most of the time, I have to move boxes out of the way to see product on the shelves as they are overflowing at the seams...including today. (I never grab a cart, you couldn't get it down the isles if you wanted).

However, they have moved the movies to an end-cap (instead of in-isle) over the past few weeks...not sure what that means.

Having said that, the Big Lots, which is next door to that DT, appear to be slimming down their stock to fewer titles than even DT usually has. Still, I took a quick peek and while there was very little to see, they DID have some new stock in there (ie, two of the Twilight Zone seasons from Image Entertainment...)
Do you recall which seasons and the price?

Well its about time they did a sale like this. I've been silently suggesting to no one for years.

Timing sucks though. I just bough this crap on the 18th, just to make stock go down.

After this there were like 3 Blurays left. One of those Christmas things and one each of American Dresser and Bangkok Revenge.

Both stores I visited today had the sale. First store had a big backup of disks still in boxes which are finally out, and I got some interesting stuff I had not seen before for my friends, and some odds and ends items.

Store two has had a huge backlog for months, it is almost all upfront now, and it's mostly old stock of no one wants.

I've made the rounds to many stores over the last few months and none have gotten anything new since November. There isn't anything left I want because I wasn't smart enough to wait for this fire sale. I already blind bought all those "lousy-looking horror films". Some of them are OK, but some are lousy. If I were to go out, it would be solely to buy up BDs for their cases which other people are already doing.

At this price there will be no BDs left at any stores in a day or two. It will just be several DVD copies of every MGM and low budget movie.

People are saying this may be "the end". Dollar Tree has now learned movies don't sell well at $1.25. Studios have learned to underproduce instead of overproduce media. If there is ever more unsold overstock at distributors, Dollar Tree will not want to buy them and take the risk unless they get them dirt cheap. This means seeing new movies at Dollar Tree will be rare and depend on how cheap they can get them.

Or this sale is simply a coordinated way for DT to purge all of the stinkers from existing inventory. They can't keep bringing in new inventory if their shelves are full from previous seasons worth of product.

Counter point: Over the last year, more of the waves have been filled with spanish versions of releases, signaling a "scraping the bottom of the barrel". Waves have also been filled with much newer releases, pointing towards a lack of bottom of the barrel to scrape from for older titles. Even Hamilton books monthly releases seem to be more expensive, more adult, and more rare prints (personal opinion).

I don't want to be right. I don't want to have to get a new hobby. But there is an avalanche of data pointing towards THE END.

I'm gonna go look in the morning, mainly to snag blu-ray cases, since I am buying a lot of used blu-ray titles on FB and Ebay, etc, and some of them need new blu-ray cases to make them presentable again. I know of 1-2 DTs that have a lot of blu-ray titles, so hopefully they'll still be there when I got looking.

I can't remember which two (but it wasn't s1 or s5, if that's what you mean). The price was 8.99 -- which is still decent, but several dollars more than Hamilton was selling them for.

I wish they would go back to seasonal waves. Those consistent waves every 2 months ****ed up the game. :-/

One person mentioned they needed a manager override. Were they ringing up 50 cents each for everyone else?

2 stores both automatically rang up at .50.

First store had no stickers on the DVDs (which I think is how that assortment was shipped).

2nd store had some stickered and non stickered, all rang up at .50.

receipts show proper assortments

Not sure how they will handle exchanges on 1.25 receipts. It should be normal procedure (1 item for another item) unless there is a no exchange policy on movies in the future

I stopped by two stores over lunch today - first one had nothing at all (it's a pretty large store, so I may have missed them, but I did walk around everywhere) while the second had a front endcap with a bunch of DVDs I wasn't interested in. May try a couple more stores yet this week to see if I find anything!

Stopped by 5 DTs today, only one store had a 2-for-$1 sign, but the DVDs and BDs all rang up at $0.50 each. Probably spent around $30, got plenty of spare BD cases now, and also snagged some DVDs, some were extended sets (time-wise) so it was hard to turn them down for the price, and others featured a decent cast in little known films.

The area that formerly housed movies at my Dollar Tree has been filled with phone cases and other phone related junk.

My store had only 3 BD's. One was Echo Bridge, the Spanish One Direction (2D), and Paranormal Activity 3. I got the last one only. For the 2 disc case, and potential 4K upgrade on iTunes at some point
