Update from the AV10 itself. It’s a 19 minute update. But if you want to run Dirac you have to buy the license from the website.

OK gotcha, so take the AV 10 firmware update first then buy a license from Dirac, then when the AV 10 asks for a Dirac product code or some such, plug it in the AV 10?

Yep. There's 2 available licenses. Limited bandwidth ($259) and full bandwidth ($349). Keep in mind neither comes with a mic. You'll need to a buy a USB measurement microphone. You cannot use the supplied Audyssey mic for Dirac.

Yep, might be waiting on the license-buying part and considering the speed at which I do this stuff, that'll be something else to look forward to in 2025.

$7K processor, $349 for a license, oh wait, you can't use it until you purchase a USB measurement microphone? What's that? Another couple hundred dollars. Wow. I wish I could say that's impressive, Wrong word,... it's ridiculous! You mean to tell me that a USB measurement mic could not be included?

Sounds like the whole Dirac deal was an afterthought. Not to mention that it's a lock that the first implementation is going to be quirky at best. It always is. I predict that there will be enough complaints on the forums regarding the missing mic, Marantz will be compelled to bring the AV10A to market, and they will, (It's what Marantz does) it will include the Dirac program and the required microphone.

I guess that's the cost of admission when ascending to the lofty heights of Pre-Pro nirvana.

Guys, I know it sounds like I drank a gallon of hator-aid, but really, think about it, What's the rush? Why couldn't Marantz just show some patience and make sure that the Dirac program was ready for implementation at the time of the launch. Make the AV10 $7499.99 all in, and call it a day? Believe me, when the AV10A is introduced, $7499, will be the msrp. Those who purchased without Dirac would have purchased with Dirac and would have paid less money. It's just a bad look. Just get it on the market and charge the early adopters up when the program is ready.

Yeah, it's not optimal that's for sure hence why that will be a further down the road purchase for me when I get an upgrade bug and don't need any new true "gear-gear." Unfortunately, that's how things are going these days, nickel and diming the customer with pay-to-play functionality.

It seems Marantz truly does have a design and/or production issue on their hands, more 0922 production build units are reporting this crackling issue as of late. Not good.

My AV7702 has performed flawlessly since purchased in 2014 ....... until about a month ago. It's developed the dreaded crackling and spurious white noise issue in the subwoofer channel only. A search revealed this is somewhat common across the Denon/Marantz line, with many owners reporting the problem developing years into use. In most cases it seems to be limited to one channel, but not always. Sad to hear it's now an issue "right out of the box" with a new model.

Yeah, it's doesn't pump one full of confidence when buying their stuff. I had an old Denon 3802 (2002) model that ran like a champ flawlessly until the day I removed it from my system. Same with my current Integra DTC 9.8 that is still in my system. Now I have an expensive piece of gear in-house that I'm totally uncertain of. Kinda sucks.

Interesting, I wasn't aware that was a thing. I had 2 Marantz units (AV7005 pre-pro and an SR6005 AVR acting as a pre-pro), but I didn't have either for longer than 3 years if I recall. I must'a missed on the crackling as those units were otherwise solid for the time that I had them. Although the SR6005 died on me just barely past a month of ownership and I had to get a replacement. But the replacement was solid.

That stinks man. I hope Marantz gets this resolved asap.

Thanks, man...much appreciated. Sucks that such a long trusted name in the audio business has undergone reliability issues such as this. Granted, I don't have firsthand experience yet and hope my experience is a good one once I get up and running.

For sure! Hopefully yours is fine once it's up and running, and that you'll be able to regale us with nothing but tales of audio bliss.
