You really need to take a course in logic. A prediction does not have merit simply because it has not happened yet. If so, then all predictions are "correct" because only the ending of time can prove them to be wrong.

It is as futile as trying to prove the non-existence of something to a zealot. By your logic everything imagined is real because in order to prove it isn't you would have to take a complete inventory of every thing in existence in the entire multi-verse. Only then could it be definitely ruled out as not existing. As Spock would say, that is illogical.

Agreed, but I believe they will prove to have merit. How is that?

I wish ol' flyry was around so that I could keep him up to date on the shipping progress of my new TV; he always loved my updates!

It is sitting not 100 miles from me awaiting the appointed day and time of delivery- 5 days from now! Oh well, the anticipation is a big part of the fun.

I would be curious to see what the 5% number grows to if you take live sports out of the equation. That would be a much better indicator of the market that Netflix is in. I would bet a large amount of traditional pay TV viewing hours is done watching sporting events.

I understand you like streaming and I do not have a problem with that. To each his own. But you seem to find personal joy in predicting the end of physical media knowing full well that it would cause unhappiness for the majority of the people on this site. That is what I do not understand. I don't like to view anyone as a mustache-twirling villain, but that's how you come across when you gleefully state that physical media is dead. If that's not the case then perhaps you should think about what you post. If you do take personal pleasure from others unhappiness then perhaps you should seek help.

I don't take personal pleasure in the shrinking Disc Market, but I guess we drew the Line in Disc vs Digital. Like I said back then, it's all Digital. We all love Movies and TV Shows, and how we view them should not determine one is better than the other. I just think that the love of Movies and TV Shows should not be limited to Physical, because it's all Digital now!

and like we said last time , who cares. I pointed out over a decade earlier it was tried with some BD titles. There is nothing new here for companies it is all about eyeball hours. So yes, in this case, FB would love to be able to say Joe is on FB 4h every night and Netflix would love to say Joe is on Netflix 4 h every night. It is a win/win for them. But in the end I don't think people will buy into it (the same way they did not buy into it every time it has been tried. and even if there is enough demand it is irrelevant since you can choose not to use it.

With streaming, cable, satellite, and broadcast TV the studios have full control over all distribution. They can remove or modify titles at any time.

With physical media anyone can redistribute the discs after they've bought them. Once a title is released on disc and bought by customers the studios can't stop it from being passed around for many decades. All the titles that have ever been released on physical media are still available on the used market.

At worst a physical title will become rare and expensive because it didn't sell well. But the solution to that is obvious: buy more physical media!

2) if this was 1979 or 1989 maybe it would be more scary, but it is 2019, yes I would love the opportunity to re-buy a lot of great catalogue films on UHD but if that option does not come to pass, I can still watch them on previous formats. I will never be sitting in front of my screen with "there is nothing to watch"

Is it a trend thing that will transition to other genres (like some of MR Pitt’s film buddies think) or will film fizzle out (Brad’s own fears I believe). We won’t find out for a while. However, with Disney looking to tie in theatrical stories with tv episodes. The shape of things to come may be forming.

What happened when sword and sandals films fizzled out, how about westerns, slashers, vampires….

Unfortunately it is the reality of the film (or TV or any content) industry. X comes out and it is cool and new. X makes a lot of money, everyone starts making X, X feels old and déjà vu, people get bored don't turn out for it any more, someone comes out with Y and it is cool and new ….

weren't idiots worried that TVs were going to kill movies a long time ago?
