Default PlayStation store

Sony's a partner studio which is strange that the PlayStation store on ps4 which has movies isn't available to be linked with movies anywhere while the Xbox one movies and tv is linked to movies Anywhere I wonder if the PlayStation store will be able to get movies anywhere linked and be the next retailer still strange that the PlayStation store wasn't before Xbox but still waiting to link to the psn account!

Wasn’t UV and wasn’t linked to the Sonypicture store either.

It could be a variety of reasons - one possibility is that although Sony owns both Sony Playstation and Sony Pictures, that they are separate subsidiaries (units), and Playstation would have to become a member of MA itself, which is probably completely unrelated to Sony Pictures being a MA partner and would require Playstation (as a unit) to pay any related MA fees itself separately. Or Playstation could have evaluated the situation and decided it wasn't a sound business decision to join, consider that Steam tried to sell movies alongside games on it's platform, and what a failure that turned out to be.

But you can buy movies alongside games on your PS4 for years now, so this combination doesn't seems to be a failure on this platform.

Yeah, I think my point got lost somewhere in that comment.

We have no idea how well the movies are performing, sales wise, on the Playstation Store. Just because they haven't stopped selling them doesn't mean that they are performing well enough to warrant more investment in infrastructure or fees.

To point, both Microsoft and Sony have positioned their game consoles to be more than just 'gaming consoles' - Microsoft and Sony want their consoles to be the centerpiece to your home entertainment center (whether it gets used that way or not is irrelevant). Hence the focus on other things like apps, books, movies, music and TV; however even Microsoft won't shy away from ditching unprofitable segments - hence the closure of their book store and music store.

But regardless of what Microsoft and Sony 'want' (or Steam, Nintendo etc) - most users still use their consoles for one purpose - gaming ...other stuff like movies, maybe not doing so well sales wise.

Perhaps movies aren't doing well enough on the Playstation Store to justify additional investment, or it could be other factors, even the fact that Sony owns both the Sony Pictures and the Playstation Store could be adding legal roadblocks to the Playstation Store joining MA.

Just saying is't not likely near as cut'n'dried as it would appear to be considering all the potential financial and legal issues at play.

It would be nice if they joined. I've only got 2 movies redeemed via my PS3 and I'm sure only of those isn't even in my account.

On the PS Blog related to the updated movie store, some people have requested MA and UV but the editors skip over those questions. I think it would be great if PlayStation connected to MA.
