Just thought I'd blow the goodies pic up a bit:

[Show spoiler]

Is that a soundtrack CD I can spot?

Surely one of the worst cover arts for a major classic.

He didnít do The Dam Busters encode (at least I donít think so) but that looks good and thatís from Studio Canal. You liked that blown up on the Oppo.

I still can't believe how often I read that kind of comments.

Just as a reminder, for decades movie posters were actually drawn...

Yeah but back then they actually looked good.

That cover does remind me of the 'Big Train' stare-out competition finals:

Not sure about De Niro, but the guy on the right is definitely Christopher Walken

I guess they are going with a similar theme to the DeeVeeDee:

That made me laugh. But you do realise I can't buy the set now as I'll be spending more time looking at the cover waiting for someone to blink

I think you've missed my point entirely. I wasn't criticizing the artwork itself, I was actually commenting on the Manga style design. It's totally inappropriate for a film like The Deer Hunter. They've tried to sex it up a bit, and doesn't work for the film. I'm a big advocate of hand drawn artwork, I'm a Graphic Designer and Artist myself, but when you're creating original artwork for a movie, it's kind of ridiculous to appropriate a style from a completely different genre.

...and thanks for the reminder regarding the posters.

This is now up at HMV, but for £39.99.

I've put my pre-order in at Amazon in case they decide to price-match upwards.

Love the film - despite probably being my third favourite Cimino, or at least tied with Heaven's Gate - but not actually sure I'll go for the UHD version of this unless it drops to a more reasonable price (£20-ish). Don't see myself upgrading to 4K anytime soon and not sure how much the CD/booklet/artcards are swaying me this time.

Am I right in thinking the regular Blu-ray edition is 2-disc? Might just get that, especially if it's 2 for £25 at HMV.

Sorry for this brief digression but speaking of re-releases, I'd like to see a 25th Anniversary collectors edition of A BRONX TALE (never mind if they dont make those fancy cards/booklet but Fullslip as with THE PIANO) .

Does SC still owns the rights?

I'd have to agree; it's certainly no MacKenzie Job:

But it's also not the worst I've seen from them. Hoping and praying to god they don't soil the bed for TDH.

Artwork is awful.

But a 4k scan is very welcome.
