Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if it is a dead ringer for the French release.

It is a barebones release, no extras....the PQ is pretty good so I would probably say this is not the same as the French release

ITV do love a jolly good barebones release. I’ll be keeping my 2 disc Shout edition then, with plenty of extras.

Dual mono for a film that had a stereo mix?

Also, if the French PQ was identical to the Australian disc then the poor quality was because the image was badly misframed and was displayed at the wrong frame rate, not that it looked like a badly processed Universal master or anything. The UK could just be from the same master except with the correct frame rate and hopefully corrected framing.

Germany release has nice cover art. The ITV effort is lazy.

This always baffles me.

Doesn't matter what the art is like to me if the title on the box isn't in my native language.

Would people be happy with the most gorgeous artwork ever commissioned for their favourite film if the title across the front was 'Fghsuaitoj'.

Oh wait. A lot of people are.

So it turns out the Koch Media release uses a transfer vastly superior to any other known transfer, including the 2 different ones that Shout Factory used:

Anyone have any idea which transfer ITV used for this release?

This is in HMV's 5 for 30 and 6 at Fopp already. I picked up a copy yesterday and can see why it's at a reduced price so quickly, it really is a very basic release - it's a shame it didn't end up with a proper label who would have given it more care. However it's a Cronenberg I've not seen before despite having been on my old LoveFilm list for years, so looking forward to seeing it finally.
