Correct. OPPO's do NOT ship as all region from the factory.

No player does for BD. It’s against the BDA licensing agreement.

Isn't it officially the same for DVD players?

I’m fairly certain that my old Sony dvd-player shipped region free. Not 100% certain, though.

I think OPPO's are region free for DVD from the factory. The external BD mod is dead easy to fit and works a treat.

Great machines... if only they would sort out the HDMI handshake with Sony displays for CD playback.

No, they're not. You need to run the "Superdisc" to make them region free for DVD. I'm not having a go but I find it strange that this "OPPO is region free out of the box!" myth continues to persist.

I know, right? It's a strange one to stay in circulation.

Not to go all amateur psychologist but I think it's got something to do with OPPO's exalted status as the best of the best of the best (sir!), people see region-free capability as coming under that aegis so they assume it must be region-free along with everything else it does. Dunno.

Kudos to OPPO for continuing to tacitly allow the region-free mods to actually work on the newest 4K models though, they used a new SoC for the UHD decks so they could've closed whatever tech loophole allows a mod to be fitted so quickly and easily to prior models. But nope, it still works and you can even use the exact same mod chip as with the 103/5 series.

I would have guessed that people are more likely to buy due to uncertainty. But that makes you an outlier.

Amazon are getting really expensive for international orders so I would’ve ordered from Arrow. Was just deciding what else to put in the basket. Aaaah this sucks.
