Last time I was in Best Buy I asked if they could let me demo the tv with the motion processing turned off and they gave me a blank stare like I was speaking gibberish
![]() Movie content motion is really the only thing I haven’t been able to compare in person between the Samsung and the Sony. I did finally get to see a 75” QN90B but still no 85”… 85” X95K is still my leading contender as of now. Price is down to $4,299 in the States. Samsung took another hit when reading up that their tvs do not automatically detect and change color gamut settings based on content playing despite their menu option sounding like it would do that. This could become an issue as more things begin to exceed DCI-P3 color gamut and use more of Rec 2020. Last edited by Diesel; 09-21-2022 at 03:41 PM. |

I would absolutely choose a Sony over an equivalent Samsung. And if I were in the market for a high-end 85" LCD, I'd go for the X95K without hesitation. By all accounts, it's up there as one of the very best consumer LCD TVs ever made.

Looks like its been confirmed the 65” and 75” use the same panel (CSOT) and the 85” is the one with a different panel (AUO).
https://sony.encompass.com/item/1294.../1-013-500-11/ https://sony.encompass.com/item/1294.../1-013-502-11/ https://sony.encompass.com/item/1294.../1-013-504-11/ Sony also has the native contrast ratios of the three models officially listed now on their site: 65” - 2,800:1 75” - 2,900:1 85” - 5,000:1 The measure for the 65” is higher than what most reviews are reporting it at but it gives an approximation of the comparison between the different size classes. Finally some hard evidence illustrating the significantly better performance of the 85” vs the smaller panels. Samsung has done something comparable on the QN85B this year (IPS panel on smaller sizes, VA on 85”), but interesting that Sony went with such a big performance change on its flagship 4K LED this year. Wonder if the Z9K uses the same panel types of the 85” X95K. Last edited by Diesel; 10-17-2022 at 01:08 AM. |

I rearranged my movie room so now I have room for a monster display. I'm looking at the 75" here when it comes down in price. It's also an excuse to get something with DolbyVision support.
I have a Samsung QLED right now and I'm honestly pretty happy. Despite it not being OLED, it gets pretty inky blacks. So I'd assume a Mini LED is going to be even better. I've thought about OLED but I just can't deal with ABL and the contrast dimming. That's a total deal breaker for me. Hopefully this one hits around $2k at some point. That's probably my strking point. |

Yes, ^^ but wait till reviewers see this new IPS panel. It's blacker than previous IPS panels and of course IPS does not need the "Wide viewing filter" that most VA panels employ to help improve the off axis viewing image quality.
Once you add the "Wide angle filter" to an VA display you have degraded the image performance. LG's nicely improved IPS panel is a very welcome upgrade for LG's mid year 2022 flagship 4K MiniLED TV. |

Once you add a properly controlled local dimming system to IPS you've pretty much circumvented the #1 problem of IPS anyway! I'm amazed that Sony are still persisting with that x-wide angle shite rather then just switching to IPS.

There are still a few Z9Js floating around, wonder if picking up one of these would be worthwhile for just a few hundred $ more instead of the X75K. Some of the reviews of the mini LED K series mention blooming being worse than last year’s J models. Viewing angles said to be about the same. Or wait for Black Friday, at which point the Z9Js will likely be sold out. Not in any particular hurry.

My 85X95K was delivered last Friday and I love it! Incredible HDR impact due to the searchlight brightness and while there is some blooming with white text on a black screen (final credits), I do not notice any blooming in letterbox bars or image content unless I ignore the movie and go looking for it (and it is still minimal).
Watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Skyfall and Ford vs Ferrari - very impressive! Top Gun: Maverick is on tap tonight. Very happy with the 85" and got $321 back due to a price match on a price drop today. The smaller sizes may be dodgy, but the 85 is really solid. I'm sure the 83 A90J would have no blooming but the brightness on the X95K in DV or HDR is amazing. |

It looks like for smaller sizes to combat Bloom your options are either Hisense or Samsung.
It also looks like Sony is firm in holding the 65” @ $3,000 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09R95MBQN?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 |

$3,999 for US Black Friday pricing on the 85”
![]() QN90B meanwhile will be $2,799. That’s an absurd price difference for two tvs not THAT different from each other performance wise. |

Sony's 85" X95K and Samsung's 85" QN90B are on very aggressive Black Friday promotional sale prices.
It's excellent for buyers' to have very good choices in these two premium TV brands from their flagship 4K MiniLED class. Some of the advantages of Sony's X95K are Sony's very well respected XR processor for the best motion resolution, best up-conversion scaling of low resolution content, like cable and Sony's excellent BackLight Master drive and control of the contrast for the best possible tone mapping and image detail. For those that will be using the TV's built-in audio Sony's X95K's TV audio is also better than most TVs and if you want to take advantage of Sony's many new audio systems, the HT-A9, HT-A7000 and HT-S5000 a a perfect match for the X95K with several exclusive features,. like using all of the X95K speakers as your center channel speaker. I love Sony's new Bravia Cam for $199 to add Video Conferencing to your X95K. With all this said Samsung's very excellent QN90B is priced very low at the new Black Friday sale price of $2,799 for the 85"!! You also get 1 year free of Bravia Core streaming services free. |

I’m honestly shocked at how aggressive Samsung’s Black Friday pricing is on the QN90B, my buddy bought the QN90A on clearance in April/May and only paid $200 less. I want to say it was around $2,999 or $3,299 for Black Friday 2021.
The X95K is the overall better tv objectively I would say after my months of following the two models, but its just not $1,200 (43%) better in my mind for my uses. For that difference I could buy a high quality 65” tv for another room if I chose so ![]() |

Not sure where you live, but I'd love to show you the 85QN90B and 85X95K butt next to each-other so you can see the differences.
I do agree that at Samsung's very aggressive promotional sale price is a very compelling offer. Unrelated, but wanted to also say we're building an entire premium 8K video wall with LG's 88" Z2 8K OLED TV, LG's 86" QNED99, Samsung's 85" QN900B, and Sony's 85" Z9K. I just purchased AVPro new Murideo 8x8 8K HDMI Matrix switch with a new 8K PC that has a lot of exclusive native 8K HDR content and 8K test patterns, and we're also building a Navida 4090 8K gaming PC that will also be connected to the 8K matrix switch feeding all of the 4 Native 8K TVs. |

Sony actually dropped the price of the 65” from $3,000 to $2,600.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09R95MBQN?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 Good to know how low they’ll price their flagship’s in coming years. ![]() Now just gotta wait until Sony knows how to make a good Mini-LED. ![]() |
