Universal Studios Kitten with a Whip (1964)

Universal Pictures will be releasing to Blu-ray Kitten with a Whip (1964) on January 21, 2020.

This will be a pressed MOD release.

Quote:
Ann-Margret stars as Jody Drew, a sweet, sexy psycho-babe on the run from the law. She's escaped from a detention center, stabbed a guard and burned the place to the ground. David Patton (John Forsythe) doesn't know all this. He's just a Senatorial candidate trying to do all the right things. But, Jody makes sure that all the wrong things happen. She twists poor David's life into a knot, first threatening him with a rape charge then, with a little help from her friends, kidnapping him for a Mexican joy ride. Kitten with a Whip is so hot it sizzles… so jazzy it swings. It's the cult classic of the century that'll suck you in and knock you out!

Great news and very unexpected! Prior to this, Universal only released it as part of their "Vault Series" DVD-R series and it isn't available digitally.

I’ve only seen the hilarious MST3K episode, but I would love to watch the original version.

Found a low quality rip of this and just watched it a couple weeks ago! Had I known it was getting a Blu-ray release, I would have just waited. Nevertheless, this will be a definite buy.

It’s not nearly as salacious as the title and artwork would suggest. It’s similar in story to a lot of those late 50s kids-gone-wild films, and it seemed dated, even for 1964. But it’s got a very young Ann-Margret, which is worth the price of admission.

1964 saw the release of both KITTEN WITH A WHIP and LADY IN A CAGE, two films that dealt with suburbanites being terrorized by rampaging young punks.

Part of the horror is that the adult suburbanites are simply in the path of the punks. Taken together, the two 1964 films depict people being victimized essentially at random, rather than for deliberate reasons.

Definitely a day one purchase for me.

I've never seen this, but there's no way I'm passing up on some 1960s Ann-Margret.

Can I ask where you got that information?

I can find no mention of this on any other blu-ray news site, and AFAIK other releases from the Universal Vault Series, which have been upgraded to HD, have all been BD-R.

I hope you are right, of course.

From the distributor. What other official Universal vault series releases are BD-R? I'm not tracking any that are BD-R.

I thought I read a couple years ago, that BD-R they stopped doing those, and decided to press regular Blu Rays, because the BD-R were having too many errors and problems with them and they were not reliable, so they just make their Blu Ray releases on regular MOD regular Blu Rays and not BD-R's

Thought it was about an up-and-coming kitten rapper that got his first kitty driver's license. I leave disappointed.

This is false. All Universal MOD titles have been pressed blu-rays.

I believe you're confusing Universal with Sony. For a brief period of time, Sony was putting out MOD BD-Rs for catalog titles (such as Not Another Teen Movie, Finding Forrester, and Little Women), but they abandoned the practice and now release their MOD titles as pressed blu-rays. From the beginning of Universal's MOD line, all of their releases have been pressed blu-rays.

When I wrote it, I googled Universal Vault Series + blu-ray and it came up with this, which seems to indicate there are a lot of BD-Rs from Universal:

https://www.oldies.com/collection-vi...%2Dray+BD%2DRs

I take it that means the shop is wrong? If so, I stand corrected. Thank you for setting me straight.
