At this rate I'd be astounded for anything to escape Disney+. That Lady and the Tramp remake didn't get even a DMC exclusive plain DVD.

I'm new to this thread but, if Lightyear was going to be a Disney+ release from the beginning, I don't understand why they would be showing so many previews at the theaters. Seems a little misleading if you aren't going to be able to see it at a theater to show the previews without letting the audience know.

What am I saying... It's Disney. They can do anything they want.

Isn't Lightyear set to release on the summer?

By then the number of cases will be much lesser than in winter so Disney might release it at theaters and then on Disney+ or they could do simultaneous release, but that will hurt tickets sales a bit.

I think if we've learned anything with this pandemic it's that we don't know anything about what the situation will be like months from now. Ugh.

Yes, but at the summer the virus doesn't spread so often like at the winter. And medication is arriving for those that don't want to take the vaccine.

Here in Portugal the situation although not the best isn't bad because we have a good vaccination base for covid.

I'm sorry for going off topic and typing about this subject.

They will put movies back in theatres as soon as it is shown to be profitable to do so.

Disney needs content for Disney+. This year - 2022 - they will spend a total of $12 billion on content for all their outlets: Theaterical, Disney+, ABC, etc.

That's right. And yet with the relentless drive to generate content for Disney+, they still won't put 3D content on there.

Not going to happen. AFAIK, no streaming service offers 3D. I know Vudu does but that's not a streaming service.

No, I don't expect it will. It's maddening that Disney have all this 3D content and just refuse to do anything with it. That's the sad reality of lowest common denominator thinking I guess...

Don't remind me. Shelving Attack of the Clones 3D and Revenge of the Sith 3D, when they'd obviously have sold fine.

Bigscreen Beta has 3D movies if you have a Oculus Quest 2 Headset.

Hard to say. I have heard rumours that they were done, but they were just rumours.

While it may be profitable to release 3D, it is obviously not profitable enough.

As much as I like 3D, I see public acceptance is still waning. I am sure there will be a resurgence in the future. Just don't know when.

It makes sense from a business perspective, but of course as a 3D fan, I wish it wasn't so.

I saw phantom menace in the theaters in 3d and it was lackluster at best. So i doubt you missed much.

You must have seen it in a theater with bad projection.

I mean, I just think it was spectacular - sure the 3D itself may seem relatively mild, compared to other movies, but it still adds so much to the experience, particularly on terms of depth.

Is this a public screening or a private screening?

Apparently Lightyear isn't going to be a Disney+ only release. AMC Theaters has it in the "Coming Soon" category for theatrical release. I guess that could change but I thought it was weird that they were showing so many trailers for a movie that was only going to be released on Disney+.
