I've watched hundreds of discs on my Panasonic 820 and the only discs I've had problems with have been this and the Casino Royal UHD within the cursed Warner Bros reissue of the Daniel Craig James Bond UHD set.

I'm going to return this disc for a replacement.
Yep, at about the same time too. I switched to the blu-ray for the next hour or so, then back to the 4K and it played fine until the end. I've got the Panny 420, and I've definitely noticed more errors with 4K discs generally than blu-ray or DVD. Nobody and Last Crusade were completely messed up, plus little hiccups in Don't Breathe 2, Maniac Cop 2, and a few others.

Not scientific, but I'd say about 1 in 6 4K discs I've bought have had issues. Stuff like this almost never happens with earlier formats. And in every case, no marks on the discs at all.

Watched my copy last night. Panny 820 or whatever the 8 series model is. Luckily no issues. Not a Matt Damon fan at all. However, I really enjoyed this. The final battle was awesome!

This is a strict one time watch. It was okay
Vintage Vantage Point comes to mind as far story telling and screenplay is concerned

The Dolby Vision PQ looks gorgeous. Was a pleasure to watch on a big OLED.

Pretty sure it was inspired by Rashomon. Vantage Point was nowhere near the first or most famous film to tell a story that way.

That opening with all of the CG blood and the cheap Netflix style colour grading, I was ready to throw this into the cat litter box. But then the movie all of a sudden got really fantastic like and I was able to overlook that initial reaction. The detailed world building, Jodie Comer, sound effects and editing, Jodie Comer, performances, Jodie Comer, full frontal nudity, Jodie Comer, costumes, Jodie Comer, etc. This just might be my second favorite movie this year after Dune. Ridley did right here.

Bravo Mr scott!!! Great film and now absolutely one of my favourites of the last year!

The last battle was one of the most intense, realistic and amaizing battle for me in years! Obviously the buildup for that.. well last duel only made it even greater!

The actors do a great job and you can just feel for Matt Damons character and Driver is just so good at playing *******s

9/10

Also i loved the look of the film, its similar to kingdom of heaven and theres not much blood and the cgi nature of it never really stood out for me

I didn't have quite as strong a reaction, but I did notice that modern CG look and slightly overly sharpened muddiness at the start as well. Felt a little sadness that such an incredible filmmaker was working within those parameters in the modern era. Similarly, within about 10 minutes I was totally engrossed and enjoyed the hell out of the movie. Ridley Scott af. Great cast, wardrobe, filming, story and food for thought.

Just finished it up about an hour ago. Glad I bought it. Exactly what I was hoping for and a lot I didn't expect.

Watching the making of now, and props to them for pulling this off in 2020.

BTW, my replacement disc played perfectly. Clearly the one that kept getting all pixely was just a faulty disc.

Only real issue I had with the film was the decision to have the words The truth linger on screen in such a fashion when chapter 3 began, as if we really needed that - just let all the chapters open equally, and allow viewers to take what they want from the film, instead of spelling things out.

Fantastic movie, otherwise.

I totally agree, especially because we didn't see much from her POV that was all that different from what anyone else showed in their portion, aside from the rape itself.

For example, where in her portion was the scene of her verbally sparring with Adam Driver at the buffet while speaking German? That scene felt key to developing his sense that they genuinely shared an attraction, yet it was entirely absent from her version. Even if it never happened, and he just imagined it, it would have been nice to see what caused him to, like the fact that she was smiling to make a point to Matt Damon while they danced, and Driver misread it as a genuine smile at him.

It'd be like Kurosawa coming on screen and saying, "The ghost's story is the right one," right as the telling starts in Rashomon.

I haven't seen Rashomon yet, although the comparisons to this movie have me intrigued. Hopefully it gets a UHD release one day.

Part of the problem is that in telling us which one is 'right' it threatens to make some of the things we've seen earlier feel pointless. Instead of us making up our own minds with the various versions of events that we've been shown, we're left to instead look back and say 'Oh OK, so those events didn't actually happen that way at all, it was just the misrememberings of a couple of egotistical men who fancied themselves the heroes of their own stories.'

Not too sure how well this one will hold up on rewatch, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

I didn't take either perspective of the various events as the right one. I just took them as different perspectives. But I didn't remember or maybe missed that The Truth part or whatever, I don't recall that.

At first, I was displeased with the emphasis on the truthfulness of Marguerite's account of the events too, but then I realized the movie isn't a cheap mystery about whether the woman was lying or not, or about who to believe: it's about perspective and perception pertaining to how men, who were (are) the architects and beneficiaries of the prevalent social system, saw themselves and excused their behavior.

Making Marguerite's accusations debatable - and therefore her story as valid as her dumb husband's and her rapist's - would render the film worthless as a progressive political work. In fact, it could even be weaponized by the usual suspects.

Ambiguity and subtlety aren't a good fit for every story. There are exceptions, and this is one of them.

My biggest objection wasn't to any subtlety about whether she was telling the truth, it was important to stress that she was.

That said, I'm not entirely sure we needed "The Truth According to Marguerite de Carrouges" title card to fade to just "The Truth." That one choice felt heavy-handed.

What I wanted more of was the story from her POV. By the time we got to her section, we had seen the whole story twice, so huge portions of it were ellipsed in her telling. There were multiple important scenes that we didn't see from her perspective at all, like the scene of her speaking German at the banquet with Driver, that I mentioned. The movie didn't really take off for me until the second half, when we were seeing things from the POV of Marguerite, who was sympathetic and recognizably human, unlike the two fairly monstrous men.
