Per the previous post, I think it's the emotional aspects of Endgame that made it great all leading up to one of the most incredible battle scenes I've ever seen. Right up there with Lord of the Rings - Return Of The King's final two battle scenes.
There is no right answer. Everything is preference. Like theres not one comic book that will scratch everyones itch, theres no one movie that can do so. For me Endgame, despite it being entirely unfair had a 21 movie build up. Its why I loved the Mass Effect games that took your previous decisions into account. You are invested in and go on their journey with them. But thats only part of it, you have to stick the landing which I feel Endgame did.

Endgame moved The Dark Knight to number two for me the night I saw it. I think two years later I'd still stand by that.

For me the buildup happened during Infinity War. It felt like that was the payoff for seeing all the previous films. Maybe that was why Endgame felt kind of disappointing for me since I already saw everyone come together.

I wish we could get a special edition with the kneeling scene put back into the film.

Maybe put some key deleted scenes in to make it worth to release.

The kneeling scene gave me goosebumps with its extreme cringe factor. Oof - I would bury that scene to never see the light of day again.

I see why it became a deleted scene.

Just got done watching Endgame on Disney+ in the new Imax Enhanced version.

I probably haven't watched it in full for a long time, and it doesn't irk me as much with some of the stuff around the time travel, but i was curious about a few things. Thanos in Infinity War managed to use the time stone to basically reconstitute the Mind stone and all of the blown up bits of Vision, so why wouldn't it have been technically possible for Dr Strange to say reverse the critical damage on Tony in the finale?

Also, watching the scene of them in like the little therapy group, was that Olivia Munn?

And one other thing that i noticed on this watch off the top of my head was that somehow Bucky despite being snapped back almost immediately after he left when snapped in Infinity War, he's shown in a shot in the final battle with a bigger looking beard and different style of hair. I guess it's more of a small continuity mistake but a shame.

It was not Munn.

Maybe not, but damn, it looks like an incredible doppelganger of her for sure. Spitting image from that angle imo.

Infinity War is a top five movie for me. Not CBM; all time. It is far superior to Endgame. While the latter played viewers with fan service, the former has gravitas, a darker edge, and a buildup of genuine dread, while still giving the heroes their big pops. Endgame is empty calories in comparison.

In fact, if the MCU goes belly-up in the next few years, I'd be happy with Infinity War as my exit point. Thanos wins, a bunch of noble heroes die, and that's that.

I completely agree. Infinity War subverted the trope of the good guys always winning and left me with a sense of awe after it ended.

Honestly though I think the real buildup was always the characters, the setup top Thanos and the Infinity Stones was actually quite straight forward.

The two films I think dealt with this very well focusing on some characters more in Infinity War and others in End Game.

Personally the first hour of End Game is really what sets it apart for me, to spend all that time on building the characters back up again from hopelessness was quite unique for a blockbuster and really did give them the chance to show off the quality of the cast and the writing.

Then again I'm a miserable bastard, grief and regret seems to make up a good amount of my favourite films.
