That's bizarre that they have all of those listed as BD-rs, because they're all pressed BDs. You can verify this by looking at the individual listings on this website. They're making the common mistake of assuming that MOD and BD-r are synonymous when they're not.

Yes, although all of those are considered MOD releases they are all pressed (replicated) discs. The site appears to be confusing MOD = BD-R.

That's good to hear. I'll upgrade to the BD of this without hesitation then.

Thanks for clearing up my misunderstanding, guys!

Jody, a 17 year-old played by Ann-Margret, is not like other teenage girls. She has escaped from a juvenile delinquent hall by stabbing a matron and attempting to burn the facility to the ground. After she flees into the night, she evades the police by breaking into a suburban house, where she is discovered by the owner, David Stratton, an ambitious politician played by John Forsythe. The life of our strait-laced protagonist, who is pursuing a Senate campaign, is thrown into a vicious downward spiral once the titular outlaw firecracker sinks her manipulative claws into him and threatens to embroil him in a public scandal. Once Jody's hoodlum friends arrive at the door, all Hell breaks loose in a whirlwind of razor blade fights, Mexico border getaways, car chases, and explosions.

The edgy 1964 B movie crime drama gem, Kitten with a Whip, directed by Douglas Heyes, is a lightning-paced thrill ride that mixes classic film noir, luridly risqué overtones, psychological horror, beat generation counterculture, jazz music, and riveting violence with brilliantly kitschy results. Had it been released during the 1970s drive-in era, it may have simply blended into the woodwork as just another viscerally sleazy and graphic exploitation outing, but the limitations of its time, when studios still operated under the censorship confines of the Hays Production Code, work in its favor. The end result is a black-and-white movie that defies quaintness at every turn by using the power of suggestion to address racy content in the narrative.

Ann-Margret is a lively force of nature in a role that emulates the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, and Mamie Van Doren while anticipating the irresistible assertiveness of Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn now in the new millennium. Forsythe, whom you all know from the Charlie's Angels television series, is a joy to watch as he plays it straight as an esteemed man whose secretive marriage troubles are covertly referenced while he succumbs to Jody's constant changes in behavior from a flirty seductress to a pouting victim to a raging sociopath and back again. Richard Anderson, whose stern countenance made him a household name years later with his role as Oscar Goldman in The Six Million Dollar Man television series, lends an amusing touch to the equation as Stratton's political advisor.

Kitten with a Whip is solid gold through and through, with a narrative that is just as exciting as its over-the-top title. My advice to moviegoers is to make this one a double feature with the 1945 film noir, Detour.

This pressed Universal Blu-ray is a bare bones affair, with nary a menu to its name, but the main feature is its own reward.

My co-feature choice for a double-bill with KITTEN WITH A WHIP would be another 1964 home invasion potboiier, LADY IN A CAGE.

Both films deal with mainstream suburbanites being hassled by punks from the younger generation. The shocking thing, by 1964 standards, was that the punks had no specific grudges against those adults. The adults simply found themselves in the paths of the young wantons. The randomness of their victimization was as shocking as the acts committed against them.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds very intriguing. Do you know if it is available anywhere? I see there was an old, now long OOP DVD release in the US, which appears to be rather expensive now.

Some eBay sellers have LADY IN A CAGE priced quite a bit more affordably than Amazon.

The only legitimate release of it, to my knowledge, is the old Paramount "Widescreen Collection" DVD. There's a Spanish "Blu-ray" release that is reportedly an upscale from the DVD.

Appears there was also a WAC DVD in 2013 (probably DVD-R).

Yes, the WAC disc is a burned MOD.

I wonder how WAC even got ahold of it, given that it is a Paramount film.

WB had a distribution agreement with Paramount during that time frame.
