Arrow Rumor: Xbox 360 to have Blu-ray drive by September READ RULES BEFORE POSTING

MODERATOR NOTE:There will be no system wars crapping tolerated here whatsoever from either side of the fence. If you want to discuss overheating, RROD, disc capacity, or how much you hate Microsoft, toddle over to PS3Fanboy.com and rant away. Please keep in mind there are no loopholes, and spirit of the law is very much in force. THINK before posting. "Am I getting in my digs in the middle?"

I think it will happen sooner or later, most likely with an add on, that way Microsoft gets a bit of the business instead of none of it.

I agree an add on is more likely.

Default Blu-ray drive on 360

Since add-ons don't sell real well for consoles, I doubt it will make much difference. Most people buying consoles for movies are buying a PS3 anyway. Will be a nice little 'perk' for 360 owners though.

I wonder if things would have been different in the format war if Microsoft would have provided HD-DVD 'out of the box' instead of as an add-on? Guess we'll never know. I read an interesting article indicating Microsoft never cared if HD-DVD won, they just wanted to delay acceptance of ANY next-gen format until they could get the technology in place to facilitate hi-def movie downloads...

This is an interesting subject. although Microsoft said that they won't be releasing any BD drive for their console the subject is still coming up. also, lets say that Microsoft goes ahead and release a bluray integrated 360, there will definitely be competition with the 360 and the PS3. Lets see how things turnout.

Add on could be likely but I highly doubt that even. Just depends on how good of a place they think the 360 is and whether they want to expand its capablities. Yeah they did it with HD DVD. But they weren't fully committed to it and I doubt they care one way or another about High Def players etc...

And by all accounts MS is doing pretty well these days in the gaming division. THe 360 is turning a profit now. The games of course are awesome and selling like clockwork. Then you've got the whole XBLA, XBox Originals, then the Digital Downloads (which I'm sure people here probably hate but they are still used by lots of people).

I can see them sticking with the 360 all the way till 2010 or w/e and then releasing their next gen console with a built in Bluray Drive.

I won't buy an add-on, because I don't want wires and cables all over the place. Plus, I have a real BD player so there isn't a need for this (my 360 + BD player are in the living room).

An integrated system? Maybe, but I'd have to upgrade my reciever (I doubt it will support analog audio) and if I have to do that than I see no point in buying an additional 360 with internal BD instead of a PS3.

if a bluray drive was incorporated into the chassis you'd probably see the failure rate of xboxen go from 33% toward 66%...

How about they make a 360 that doesn't break all the time first?

i dont think 360 will try to compete, imo, they will wait for their next system...which will probaly be released a few years before the next playstation...........no sense in spending more money on a system that already has too many bugs

Not really. I'm about as original as the other 33% of 360 owners who had their consoles RROD.

Yeah I keep seeing things pop up all over the place about this, but I keep seeing them deny this. I mean after all the Hd Dvd add on only sold around 250,000 from what I have read. Which considering how many 360's are out there isn't a whole lot, compared the sales of the PS3. Besides that they are only after their digital downloads anyway.
