Its probably 1080i/50 and your probably playing this in a USA PS3 right?

The only thing I can recommend is the oppo blu ray player. It plays just about everything. You need a player that can convert 50hz to 60hz, and the oppo is the only one I know of.

SO what do I do? can anyone tell me? Do i need to buy another blu ray player?

thank you so much for any help.
I am a a Briton living here in the States, and was also dissapointed at the result when i put it on my ps3... so naturally, I decided to do som research and found:

1) In order for the Panasonic DMP-BD60 to work your TV must accept the 50Hz and output it. (I bought this player with much the same result as the ps3 because my tv cannot output @ 50Hz.

2) i read up on, and tested the LG BD370 and indeed it not only accepts a 50 Hz signal it can also convert it to 60Hz just in case your TV cannot accept the 50Hz PAL (Phase Alternating Line) signal used in Europe.
Oh and by the way the BD370 displays the Programme in 1080p according to the info button on my Panasonic 85u series TV so good luck and hope this helps

Just to clear up some facts in regards to the UK version of Life which is also sold in the UAE...

Main Feature

VIDEO FORMAT: high definition 1080p *
AUDIO: english DTS HD
SUBTITLES: english for the hard of hearing
LENGTH: 585 mins approx
DISC FORMAT:4xBD50

* SOME SHORT ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAMME ARE INTERLACED(ie the credit rollers)

Due to the nature of filiming in remote areas some images are NOT full HD.

The majority of disc content is full 1080p, my PS3 has no problems playing the discs, the image quality and the content of this series is stunning and beautiful, the BBC have once again created a work of art/killer app.

I am watching through my 50" Panasonic Plasma and I have to say this surpasses Planet Earth..

Friends came over for dinner last week and we watched disc Two "Birds and Fish" my friend bought a blue ray player and Plasma TV four days later, it was the first time they had watched a blu ray.. I guess that says it all.

The is plenty of firsts within the content of these discs, things you have never seen before..

How can your PS3 play back the 1080i/50 content? Or are you/your PS3 not Region A?

Does anybody have or seen the packaging of Planet Earth/Life Box set? They have got digipack packaging or just Planet Earth got it or maybe neither of them?

If the box set contains just a regular blu-ray case i will buy them separately.

My PS3 drops the audio on a regular basis, forcing the video into a kind of slow motion as well. This is not normal behaviour and the first blu ray I have had this problem with.

It always happens about 15 minutes into a disc, so far on the 3rd disc. Rather weird. If you pause, FF FR and then play again, it usually bypasses the problem area.
