1. Offer in effect January 10 – April 30, 2010.
2. One (1) DVD trade-in equals $5 discount towards the purchase of one (1) specially stickered Blu-ray.
3. Limit of 1 DVD trade-in per Blu-ray purchase.
4. Trade-in must happen at the time of purchase.
5. Multiple disc DVD box-sets will be credited as one (1) disc and will receive a $5 credit against the purchase of a specially stickered Blu-ray, regardless of the number of discs in the set.
6. Promotional DVD copies will not be accepted and HMV reserves the right to refuse any trade in based on condition or questionable content.
7. Trade-in DVDs become the property of HMV Canada and will not be returned to customers. Returned Blu-rays will only be credited at the paid receipt value (i.e. $5 trade-in credit is non-refundable).
8. All returns must be accompanied with the valid HMV receipt within 21 days of purchase.
9. BONUS TRADE IN OFFER: hmv will now also honour the trade-in of any HD DVD against the purchase of a specially stickered Blu-ray title.

sweet... good to head. not really a good deal on the box sets trade in thou cuz $5 for that isnt worth much. could sell most box sets for more. still, ill be popping into my local store once this goes into effect.

Don't they give 5$ for each disc in the boxset? so if your box contains 5 discs, you have a 25$ credit... if buying 5 blus...

from my understanding, SOME stores were doing this last time when they were not supposed to

it was always supposed to be $5 for a DVD or boxset

anyone who got $5 for each disc "got lucky" last time because of the ambiguous description of their promotion

No, last time it was clearly mentioned you would get $7 off each disc:

Limit of 1 DVD trade-in per Blu-ray Purchase. Trade-in must happen at the time of purchase. Multiple disc box-sets will be credited as per the number of discs in the set and the credit of $7 per disc must be used on the equivalent number of Blu-ray purchases. (i.e. 1 3-disc DVD boxset equals $21 credit which must be applied to the purchase of 3 qualifying Blu-ray titles).

Now it's only $5 and also $5 for a boxset

blockbuster offers $8 for used dvds for the purchase of new blus?

EDIT: i checked their site, you only get $8 when trading in a blu-ray...this HMV promotion is for trading in DVDs

Nice, though I doubt I will get the score I managed last time with Die Hard Quad -$28 and Xmen Trilogy -$21... Though the ad says nothing about using multiple trade ins towards boxsets... will have to see what titles are available.

Regardless the number of discs in the set so it's really 5$ per item (single dics or boxsets)

1 DVD = 5$ of a single dics blu-ray

1 DVD = 5$ of a blu-ray boxset

You will not be able to exchange more then one dvd towards a blu-ray or boxset....

I just call at HMV in Sherbrooke and the lady said that it's not all HMV that will have this today. Some of them will have the trade-in monday instead of today....

I just got back from Yorkdale. The sign outside said that there are over 1,000 eligible titles. I asked for a list, but they couldn't give one out. There were way too many titles to attempt to write them down.

They said that Fox, Paramount and Warner titles qualify for the deal. I also saw that some of Alliance's qualified and at least one Sony (because I bought it).

They said that titles and quantities will vary by store. That was their main excuse for not giving me a list.

One word of advice: check out all available copies of any movie that you want. Sticker prices varied for the same title. Some had the trade-in sticker and others didn't. If in doubt, ask at the checkout whether a certain title qualifies.

I asked about trading in box sets, or trading for box sets. They said that they were burned by that last time and only $5 will be deducted if you trade in a box set. You can't get more than $5 off any set either. YMMV of course, but that was the deal at Yorkdale.

I took 11 DVDs with me and traded 10 of them.

Here's my haul after the $5 deductions:

Star Trek Season 3 $79.99
Layer Cake $15 (not stickered, but they confirmed it at the checkout)
Lethal Weapon $3
Lethal Weapon 2 $3
The Pelican Brief $5
Equilibrium $10 (not stickered, but confirmed at checkout)

Casablanca $15
Big Trouble in Little China $10 (yeah, I know it can be had for that price elsewhere)

So I finally picked up Star Trek for under $80 and paid $74 for the other nine.

Yorkdale had a few copies of Firefly at $39.99 and it's eligible, so you can get that for $34.99 if you haven't picked it up yet.

weird i just went to an hmv in the main halifax mall and asked about a few like resevoir dogs and running man and they said those ones dont qualify...

it was a rather high percentage of titles...all the tiles on my list at my price range were included...that they had in stock.

I picked up Army of Darkness (15.00 after trade-in), Halloween remake (15.00 after trade-in), southwest tales (15.00 after trade-in), Child's play (15.00 after trade-in).

i cancelled army of darkness from my amazon.co.uk order since it hasnt shipped yet...waiting on one item and it happens to be one of the items i want the most from that order

i also picked up a couple of other titles (on dvd) i was looking for...the new lance et compete and a guy lafleur dvd.

My gf picked up Chuck season 1 for 24.99 after trade in. she also got one of her other ones for 5.00 off even though it wasnt in the list...the manager just said "ah you can have that one for 5.00 off too" lol. i think it was dark crystal although i dont have her blu-rays handy to mention her list
