Default PS3 games with installs (REQ vs Optional)

The following list I found on a trading website (I think) which had a PS3 forum, one of the (pinned) topics was about the installs to the system for PS3 games. Required & the Optional, I think It would help those either have or don't have a PS3 yet (such as me ) with what to get, what system to get (space), etc.

I would like help in updating it as it is a couple of years old and doesn't have recent releases (God Of War Collection, God Of War III, etc)

For the sizes of the games.

Note: I DIDN'T create the list, another forum did (as I mentioned) I just took that list, pasted into excel and cleaned it up and separated the installs.

Good list, I'm at about 20GB left and if there's big installs for games this fall I could be trouble.

I think Heavy Rain was something like 4.5Gb. Not sure on the exact number but it was huge.

And the list might be better as it was, with how much each game was. Otherwise I really don't care to know that the above set of games it 178GB, because I don't have that set of games.

Incomplete list is incomplete.

Just going off of what I can remember from the games I own:

Bioshock 2 has a mandatory install.
Brütal Legend has a mandatory install.
Darksiders: Wrath of War has a mandatory install.
(as mentioned above) Heavy Rain has a mandatory install.
Lost Planet 2 has a mandatory install.
Resident Evil 5 has a mandatory install.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 has an optional install.
Trinity Universe has an optional install.
Bayonetta has an optional install.
NIER has an optional install.
Resonance of Fate has an optional install.

Prince of Persia (2008) has some sort of install, I do not remember whether it is mandatory offhand.

Trinity Universe install is actually just an install of a Trinity Universe PS3 theme to use for your XMB background but Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 has a mandatory install of 3 GBs.

Also to add Yakuza 3 is mandatory, and so is Ar tonelico III(or English name Ar tonelico Qoga) 4.9 GBs.

Tears to Tiara Gaiden Optional 1.5GB install

White Knight Chronicles 2.6 GB Mandatory install

Star Ocean: The Last Hope 1.9 GB Mandatory install.

Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires 3GB Optional install.

Soul Calibur IV 2.6 GB Optional install.

Record of Agarest War 9GB install Mandatory along with another 9GB for the game to make it 18GBs of free space needed. Once the install is done, it just goes back to the 9GBs for the game and gets rid of the other 9GBs needed to install the game.

If the install size could also be mentioned as that's also one reason I want to (complete) this list --- To see the ultimate amount of space these all take up (if someone else wishes to buy all these, which someone probably has ) but also to help those that may not have the games (or the system) decide what to buy.

I think it would also be beneficial to list each one's install size AND total it. Someone might not want to go out and buy something with a 5GB install only to realize they have to buy a new HD to play it.

Unlikely case, but still.

I did provide the pictures of what each of the above games in the list has for size. Though I probably will go and put the size of everything.

From what I recall The King of Fighters XII has an optional install UNLESS you're connected to the internet. When you're connected it will download the update patch and force an install.

Great list! I'll check out my games to see if I can add anything

Yeah, Heavy Rain's was about 4.5. Plus another 300MB for the two patches. plus another 900MB if you downloaded the Taxidermist DLC.

I think most fighters have an optional install. Street Fighter IV should be added there

Got a couple (probably stupid) questions that I think I already have the answer to but would like confirmation. I only have 19GB left on my 74GB Hard Drive. Problem is, I've got a backlog of games with a combined 8.5GB install. There's at least 3 games I want this fall (one being GT5 with a 10GB optional install) and it looks like I'll be in trouble.

-If I delete game installs from older games that I don't play as much anymore, what happens if I go to play it again? Does it just reinstall the xxGB and keep the save and then load as if nothing happens? I'm specifically talking about Heavy Rain's 4.5Gb install among a few others.
-If I buy a new, bigger HD, is it hard to replace? I think I remember seeing a thread here somewhere, I'll look for it after this.
-If Save data is locked and I want to use a new HD, am I SOL with that game? I think I only have one that is locked.
-If I decide to not get a new HD, is there a way I could "backup" game installs or is that just completely pointless?

Thanks

I don't think replacing the hardrive is hard, but than I don't have the system nor have ever tried/seen it done (in person). You WILL need a LAPTOP 2.5" SATA drive for the replacement.

Why should any ps3 game require a mandatory install when game programmers do away with it for the 360? It suggests that they don't know how to use the blu ray drive. Out of all the Sony games i have (8 of them) none need a hard drive install. None of them!

Btw, Split Second has a 3.7gig mandatory install.

It will just reinstall the game data. Saves aren't affected as far as I know.

Not hard at all Guide here

I asked this question before I upgraded too. If you use the Back Up Utility to back everything up before switching hard drives you can just restore all your data, yes even locked saves (as long as it's the same PS3).

Back up utility will back up EVERYTHING, even the game installs. Took forever for me so deleting the game install data would be helpful if you're in a hurry or don't have a big enough device to hold all that data.

Thank you very much for the answers. If I can just delete a few GB of game installs that I don't play anymore I might do that to get me by for now. I know between Heavy Rain and World at War I can get back like 6GB or something close to that. But I'll keep an eye out for a cheap HD as shopping season nears and might just replace it later this fall.

As bad as that install is, Split/Second is one of the smoothest, quickest transitioning games I've played. The waiting is incredibly minimized with that install.

I agree, Trace, which i'm thankful for. The $hitbox 360 version is very poor compared to the ps3 version. It compromises on the graphics right across the board.
