Canada Criterion Antichrist $20.99 from amazon.ca?

The pre-order price for Antichrist on amazon.ca from the blu-ray.com link is $20.99

Is this a mistake? Can I jump on this for a highly discounted copy of the film? Is it getting a non-criterion BD release in Canada?

Any info. would be appreciated. I may go ahead and order.

The one listed at 20.99 IS NOT the Criterion release. Anything listed as 'Paradox' on amazon.ca must be dealt with carefully. They bring over many US blus (such as the actual Criterion disc currently listed at $29.05), but also handle E1 Entertainment, Seville Pictures & a few other small companies' releases. This particular cheaper version of Antichrist is being released by E1 Entertainment, and just may have different extras than the Criterion set.

The exact same thing occurred when Che was released last year. There's the Criterion import, as well as the Paradox/E1 2-disc release that had exclusive extras in a nice box set that looked nothing like the Criterion version of Che.

Thanks, I'll probably cancel my order. Sigh, one day maybe there will be a Criterion sale worth taking advantage of in or from Canada (I missed the last deepdiscount one).

Cheers!

There will be another Barnes and Nobel sale in November I believe, as well as Black Friday for Amazon.com.

I called up Barnes and Nobel and they said that, as long as you don't use "Expedient or Next Day" they will ship with USPS

Really? Fantastic! I was under the impression they wouldn't ship to Canada.

Here's the cover art for the CDN non-Criterion title, released by E1 Entertainment:

Arg! It looks like E1 Entertainment have changed their logos! Ah, the OCD in me is going off the charts!

Rhylliam: Any word on what special features will be included? I'm picking up the Criterion for myself, but was thinking of getting the E1 for my bro (who seems to have something against Criterion)

No idea on E1 Antichrist extras yet, sorry...

I too was a lil annoyed at the E1 logo changing to eone, since the previous logo looked very nice/expensive, whereas the new one is pretty basic.

Personally I feel this movie's a bit overrated to be released as a Criterion. It's not Lars' most remarkable work or most surprising work. I'd rather see Dogville.

I think it's mainly because there has been some wondering if/when this movie would actually come out to US/CAN region. All the Blu-Rays were either locked, or at 1080i/50hz.

Plus, I don't think any other studio wanted to release it up here.

Well the new logo looking worse/cheaper matches the covers better then I thought the Good cover was bad (Wow that ends up sounding weird) but that Antichrist one makes it look good (Thankfully a moot point for me since I think anybody that would buy that or Che here and not go Criterion is insane) They really need to hire a new graphics designer.

Yeah, DOGVILLE is fantastic.

I wish Amazon in the US would change the retail price/price for the DVD. They list it as almost a $40 retail price and everywhere else has the retail at $29.99. They are also selling it for what, $35? That's more than the actual retail.

Well I managed to grab the E1 version of this today. I'll put up a BD Info report later but at least it's a dual layer disc. Sounds promisiing that it might turn out similar to what E1 did with Che in Canada.

Code:
Disc Title: ANTICHRIST
Disc Size: 40,871,332,042 bytes
The feature size seems to be 22,903,934,976 bytes and have a length of 1:48:35 and is tagged as 1080p in BD Info so I suspect it's going to be a very similar encode to the Criterion one. The Warner France and Artificial Eye ones are reported to be 1080i only while the Criterion is 1080p.

From DVD Beaver it has the following values for the:

Warner Home Video (France) / Artificial Eye / Criterion (spine #542) releases.

Code:
Runtime: 1:44:05.000 / 1:44:00.040 / 1:48:50.065

Disc Size: 44,267,437,944 bytes / 23,368,893,604 bytes / 47,731,201,235 bytes

Feature Size: 23,542,259,712 bytes / 15,932,119,488 bytes / 24,153,022,464 bytes

Video Bitrate: 23.56 Mbps / 14.78 Mbps / 24.95 Mbps

Chapters: 12 / 12 / 22

Case: Standard Blu-ray case / Transparent Thicker Blu-ray case

Release date: November 4th, 2009 / January 11th, 2010 / November 8th, 2010

Extras...

-Audio commentary featuring von Trier and film scholar Murray Smith
-The Antichrist Test
-Antichrist - Chaos Reigns at the Cannes Film Festival 2009
-Confessions About Anxiety
-Eden - Production Design
-The Sound and Music of Antichrist
-The Three Beggars - The Animals of Antichrist
-The Make-Up Effects and Props of Antichrist
-The Evil of Woman
-The Visual Style of Antichrist
-Interviews with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe

So based on what DVD Beaver has it sounds like the extras line up with the Artificial Eye Region B release. It looks like shorter interviews with the 2 stars and no interview with the Director being the extras differerence from the Criterion. The Confessions about Anxiety extra isn't listed at DVD Beaver as on the Criterion but that may just a typo.

It displays as 1080p in BD Info and on my player/TV so I think it cannot be the same encode as the Region B one. So it seems like it's a little of bit of this from here and there. Hopefully I can watch it tonight in full.

Interesting. There also could have taken the master that Artificial Eye and just changed it to 1080p so it could be playable on US/CAN players. Very similar to what Warner did with BBC's Life (1080i/50hz --> 1080p/24)

The bitrate graph looks very similar to the Criterion. The previous release like this was Che and it seemed to be the same encode as the Criterion. I guess it will be hard to tell for sure unless someone has both.

the E1 edition is part of the current 2/$30 sale. From the above it looks comparable to the Criterion, but has anyone here seen the difference?
