Default John Waters on Blu-ray?

Does anyone know if there are any plans to release the films of John Waters on bluray anytime soon?

I'd love Pink Flamingos, Polyester, Hairspray and Serial Mom on BD.

Pink Flamingos would be a hoot! But I'm sure you realize that it will never look pristine as the original is not in good shape and a restoration of this would probably be way to costly.

watched my old VHS of Female Trouble a couple of weeks back, visit revisit in years. A true bad taste classic in all respects.

I never got the New Line John Waters films on DVD as they took to matting a lot of them down to Widescreen, when they were supposed to be in 4:3. Despite Waters approving the mattes, there were complaints online, and I'm strictly OAR.
If we do get them on BD, they need to be OAR for me, or no sale again.

It's unfortunate, but the DVD collections are a great set and I think you're missing out. The only two VHS titles I still own are "Multiple Maniacs" and "Mondo Trasho." For some reason, though, I'm thinking that "Multiple Maniacs" was released on DVD at some point. I could be wrong, though.

Multiple Maniacs never came out on DVD. Supposedly John Waters does not want to release Mondo Trasho or Multiple Maniacs again since he'd rather they not be seen anymore. For him he likes to think of Pink Flamingos as the start of it all. If we do ever get his earlier films on BD it will most likely be the restored versions that were reframed for widescreen on purpose by John Waters himself. He prefers those versions now because he thinks they look more cinematic. I think we'd most likely get Polyester and on on BD and not the earlier stuff. Let's keep out fingers crossed for something from his catalogue on BD.

Criterion released a Laserdisc version of Pink Flamingos a while ago and it was in very good shape. i doubt much would have to be done to improve it.

Let's hope Criterion releases a Blu-ray as well. If they still own the rights...

I have pink flamingos on dvd and seem to remember the picture quality being horifically bad.. i'll have to pop it back in to see. I'd be very interested to see a bd transfer, especially from criterion.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. I know he's said Mondo Trasho is a five minute film stretched out to 90 minutes, but he isn't trying to suppress them. In reality, music rights issues are keeping them from being released, particularly Mondo Trasho, which is mostly a silent film where the characters' emotions are told through hundreds of snippets of popular songs throughout the movie. It'll probably never be released again; at least not with its original soundtrack. There were rumors that New Line was working on getting Multiple Maniacs on DVD, but nothing has come of that yet.

Anyway, count me as another who would love the films of John Waters on Blu-ray, especially Serial Mom, Polyester, Female Trouble, Pink Flamingos, Desperate Living, and Hairspray.

I would love Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Desperate Living, Polyester, Serial Mom and Pecker. Those, in my opinion, are his best movies.

Multiple Maniacs is now out on bluray and Serial-Mom finally comes out next month. I am sure PF, FT, DL, Polyester, Pecker, Cecil B. Demented and A Dirty Shame will be on bluray someday. I am sure MM cost a lot and they did that one and that was never even released before.

As many of you many know, Female Trouble will soon be out via Criterion, and Polyester is confirmed for next year. And according to this new interview with John Waters, Warner Brothers just contacted him and informed him they are putting out Pink Flamingos again.

While I'm glad it's coming out on Blu-ray, I kinda wish Criterion was doing it. They would give it all the TLC it needs, plus produce new extras I'm sure. WB is probably just releasing this via Warner Archive. I could be wrong, but that's my hunch.

Of his pre-Hollywood films, this really only leaves Desperate Living really. Here's hoping Criterion lands that one too.
