France Kaboom (Gregg Araki)

Kaboom Blu-ray

Gregg Araki's Kaboom (2010) has received a preliminary release date for the Gallic markets: March 1. Screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Let's hope that Nowhere will eventually make it to Blu-ray.

Saw this in cinemas, the ending was completely unexpected. Might get it on BD.

Wow, this has yet to even have a DVD release in the US. I've only seen a trailer for it, it must have had a very limited theatrical release in the US - if it came to Tucson, it must have come & gone quickly. Looks like Wild Bunch has the rights for France so it it will most likely be Region B coded and forced subs with the original English audio, but I will likely buy a copy. I like Araki's work, and any movie with a line like "it's a vagina, not a bowl of spaghetti" is a must for my collection.

Excellent to see his work on Blu-ray. I really hope some of his older films get a release, such as Mysterious Skin. I'm looking forward to this one though.

Bêtisier means Bloopers btw, which is AWESOME news haha.

Very happy about the special features, glad i already pre-ordered. The film is incredible, and all of greggs films deserve a blu-ray release, Especially Mysterious Skin & Nowhere. hopefully within this lifetime eh.

You should not give up that easily.

What you see on the menu is anything but a confirmation, as there are literally thousands of discs with such markings that have optional French subtitles. Unless you have tested the disc in your player and you cannot turn off the French subtitles via the remote control, there is no confirmation.

You have to manually test French releases.

Wild Side always force French subtitles on their Blu-rays and DVDs. Independant compagnies like Wild Side which do not own movies themselves (they only purchase the rights to release them on DVD and Blu-ray on certain territories) have to force subtitles for legal reasons (in order to make it difficult to sell the discs outside of France, because they have bought the rights to release those movies only in France). So it's almost 100% sure that the French subtitles will be forced.

Yeah, as the release is from Wild Side, I assumed it would have forced French subtitles with the English audio, but not a problem for me and I have it pre-ordered. With my Panasonic projector's lens memory function I have a setting saved for that which masks off the lower black bar and the only time I see subtitles is the top of the characters when there's 2 lines of dialog. I just bought an Oppo blu-ray player which has the ability to shift the subtitles, so I'll just push them way down in the bottom black bar and never see them. I have another Wild Side BD and several Tf1 releases which also have forced subs.

Oh man and it sucks because pre-orders for the IFC edition of KABOOM just came out and it looks like it'll be DVD only (5/31).... Bummer!

But maybe there's hope for the UK edition. Artificial Eye is supposed to release it theatrically this summer, so maybe they'll put out something more US friendly... Does anyone know if AE typically does region free? I know their release of Fish Tank was.....

The French subtitles are forced. I guess it's region B locked but I can't confirm it.

Nice picture, thanks.

Looks a good movie this and I'm a big fan of most of Araki's stuff so I'll pick this up.

Pity about the subs but those can be removed with your PC or (removed from view) with some Philips and Oppo machines.

Caught this last night -breathtakingly bad. Awful.

You don't need to be a good actor in an Araki film but when nothing else comes together it would help.

Complete failure.

Didn't care for it, eh? I really liked it, one of my favorite Araki films to date. I thought the lead actress playing Stella, Haley Bennett, was very good. Thomas Dekker was perfect for his role. I didn't realize that was James Duvall playing the stoner guy until the ending credits. The ending sure wasn't what I was expecting, but come to think of it, in an Araki film the ending is rarely what I'm expecting. That and that you never know what to expect next is why I like them, even if I'm not always in my comfort zone with some of the sexual situations.
