Too bad, I don't see any AMC theaters in NYC listed...though a few in NJ are listed as NY!

Thanks - and for 2 weeks, no less! (Much as I love FF, the screens are a bit small.)

I'm gonna have to drive two hours, as well, but I'm definitely gonna see this on the big screen. I missed my chance when I was in Amsterdam in 2006 (luckily, I did get to see Raging Bull)...I won't miss it again.

Here's a good article from someone that viewed the 4k restoration on the big screen.

Quote:
To see the film on the big screen (which I hadn't viewed, writ large, since college), was a revelation. There's been much debate about the restoration of the picture -- that it might take away the grit of Travis Bickle's New York City -- a city that he discusses in terms of filth and scum (which made me wonder, while Bickle was telling his surprise cab fare Senator Palantine the needed changes to the city, if this had been Mayor Giuliani's favorite movie). But watching the movie, I believe the right balance was achieved. Never once did you feel like you weren't in NYC 1975, never once did you think the vibrant reds took away from the dirty streets, the garbage, in fact, they only seemed to highlight them more. I always though that even Betsy's dresses, often red striped or pure white, were an interesting counterpoint to the junkies and lowlifes (who were also, incredibly vibrant, even before restoration) -- she is, of course, an "angel," as Travis proclaims her. But soon, to him, like all the rest of them.
I'm counting down the days.

I have a tin sign poster of that:

I agree, it would have been a fitting cover for a digibook.

well all of that sounds nice and dandy, but realistically in today's world all of that can be duplicated. You can get the same 1080p quality with lossless audio and all of the extras online, Im not in any way condoning piracy, but the studios have to take this into consideration when putting out their products. What is going to make me want to buy this, rather than download the exact same thing in the EXACT same quality? Not talking about a crummy rip either, Im talking full resolution disc image.

I really hope this does well enough so that Sony (or other studios) that have done 4K remasters can release them to the big screen - where they are meant to be seen. I know that Sony had released a new 35mm print of the 4K (2.55 AR) restoration of 'Bridge on the River Kwai' - now that's a wide screen movie that really needs to be seen on the big screen! why didn't that get released to select theatres in digital projection ??

Moral conscience with regards to things like stealing, lying, etc.?

Or perhaps empathy for the damage that piracy does to the livelihood of people who work for a living (and their families) and I’m not referring to the CEO’s and Presidents of rights holders like studios and such…

Or, in the future, for those individuals who need some ‘prodding’ in order to develop and maintain a moral conscience in society, I’ll remind them that there is an international effort in progress to ultimately lead to a signed treaty by the participating nations and during the course of these ACTA negotiations, this provision has been included in what is likely the final draft -

“4. Each Party may provide, in accordance with its laws and regulations, its competent authorities with the authority to order an online service provider to disclose expeditiously to a right holder information sufficient to identify a subscriber whose account was allegedly used for infringement, where that right holder has filed a legally sufficient claim of infringement of trademark rights or copyrights or related rights and where such information is being sought for the purpose of protecting or enforcing the right holder’s trademark rights or copyright or related rights. These procedures shall be implemented in a manner that avoids the creation of barriers to legitimate activity, including electronic commerce, and, consistent with each Party’s law, preserves fundamental principles such as freedom of expression, fair process, and privacy.”

I'm surprised to see a couple theaters near me are showing this.

Hey, Penton, any chance the BD will include the theatrical trailer? It's not listed on the extras, but the AMC site has a 720p version of the trailer linked on youtube.

This is another great movie that I bought as a laser disc--so it is definitely one that I want for my Blu Ray collection. Nicely priced at $12.99 on Amazon so what's not to love.

Don't generalize your rather abnormal (to put it nicely) priorities, for most people packaging is a marginal concern at best. Most pirates download movies because they don't want to pay for them, and will continue to do so regardless of how fancy of a box the studio puts them in.

The Blu-ray is already dirt cheap as it is, and you still don't want to pay for it?

Of course the film comes first but I have to admit I'm a pushover for nice packaging and coverart. Back in the LD days I used to admire all of those spectacular box sets and dream of the day I would have the financial resources to build a collection. Some of those sets where the definition of class. Disney animated classics, MGM musicals, the Criterion collection where all pretty amazing.
