The Paramount DVD's colors were far too brown and dark, so if they're not like the DVD then I think that's a good thing.

there are TWO Cut versions, but its branched.

its the same master, which is the restored one (2008/09) one.

in my opinion, i want people to bare in mind, i havent watched this whole film, just some scenes:

i like the the look of the film for the majority, looks very nice, i just dislike the look of some Scenes, where the colour is quite different, arguably more "natural" i just didn't like it, iv looked at the blu-ray on my pc, it looks "better" through a different monitor/screen i will admit, so it may vary upon peoples own TV sets and calibration.

i have compared several scenes between R1 DVD, Italian DVD, and the Blu-Ray

i don't know if i am allowed to post screenshots, if i have some kind of permission i could try comparing.

p.s. one thing i can say i am pleased with, is the aspect ratio is the same as the Italian DVD i think, there seems to be a little more image gain to the right side of the blu-ray. the aspect ratio doesnt seem to be slightly squished like the region 1 dvd was. there is also a bit of image gain at the top from what i can tell, its very slight but definitely there.

edit**

comparing them, my mind is changing, i think the new colours definitely look more natural in the scenes i initially disliked the colour of, im not sure if i will love it, but it is probably better than DVD.

i think im just so used to the dvd because iv seen the thing so many times..

i think most people will be very happy with this blu-ray. if that eases everyones minds

I think it's funny that some people always seem to think that the DVD has the proper color timing.

Do both/either versions on the BR include the scene at the beginning where Harmonica rises from the platform after being shot (which Leone had intentionally cut out of the film, yet was reinserted for the US DVD)?

Yes, both cuts do (theatrical and "restored")..

Hmmm, well that's a huge disappointment.

research the film festival restoration one, i forgot the name of the company, but it was funded and encouraged by scorsesse himself.

that is apparently the edition on the blu-ray that is "restored"

i watched some of the intro at the station, and noticed some shots were longer with a bit more.

e.g. when one of the gun fighters signals to "forget about it" at the station with his face, in the restored edition, it shows him looking around and thinking about it a bit before he does that , compared to the theatrical.

As said way back in post #58, it's called the Film Foundation.

Oh, I'm aware. It's just too bad that it apparently contains scenes that aren't supposed to be there, regardless of Scorsese's endorsement.

I'm assuming the "bigger" picture in the centre is the Blu-ray.

i think i realize what else it is particularly about the flash back scenes that i don't like-

the image looks too "exposed" (dark room terms) it just looks very dim and dark, bit green toned, maybe its just me, but thats how i feel about that scene. i don't understand either because when i watch other scenes, its inconsistent, most scenes i see in the film, look better than the dvd is how i feel, and the colour looks improved and more natural but without looking like the colours been messed with, UNLIKE the flash back scene.

my feeling is: The dvd colour isnt perfect, but neither is the blu-ray, as far as the famous flash back scene goes..

some scenes, like the close up of harmonica's face when he first faces the 3 gunmen at the station, actually looks brighter than the DVD! and better colour.

(back to talking about the flash back scene: )
as i said, i could just be too used to the dvd, but as far as that scene goes, i dont consider the blu-ray an overall improvement, but im sure i'll be met with plenty disagreement.

his skin tone definitely looks more natural colour looking, but the hair and background looks greenish to me, and dim. as do all shadows in that scene.

"FLAT" is how i'd describe it.. the DVD's look a little more alive. hard to explain.

Full screen grabs would be very much appreciated. I think you can do it in VLC by clicking screenshot when playing the Blu-ray.

I guess the restoration would have been used for the blu-ray, so I'm not surprised

Love this film. Glad the Bits gave it a good review
