I wonder if it's the same 35mm print that I saw in 2010 that is playing in L.A.

Also, I guess that I'll double dip if Severin does a BD release. I missed Buio Omega, I might wait on it then and get it when they do a BD for it. I personally can't tolerate Media Blasters.

For good reason. I think just about every single BD that I have of theirs is highly problematic in some way or other. Buio Omega missing footage, Kite and Urotsukidoji having several poorly upscaled SD inserts, Ichi the Killer and Riki-Oh being straight-up upscales through and through, Burial Ground and Zombi Holocaust looking like total dick, etc.

For as much $#!7 as some labels like Shout! Factory and Code Red have gotten, nobody is anywhere near as consistently crap as Media Blasters.

At least Bad Biology and FleshEater seem OK. I guess now and again they can deliver a decent product.

Yeah, you can go through threads for various MB titles and I've done some hardcore complaining about their business practices. Them getting Godzilla titles was the worst thing that they've done, in my eyes. But, hey, good for Severin.

I hope one of them can add a subbed Italian track for BG.

Burial Ground is coming from 88 Films at the end of the year, and they're doing a new scan and restoration.

The Severin releases of Beyond the Darkness and Burial Ground will have some very interesting extras too.

No, actually I donated to the kickstarter they had, so I've had it on pre-order for ages. But I thought I'd mention it since this thread is a possibility about a new BG blu coming out, and since the 88Films one is only being talked about on the UK board, people might not know/didn't seem to.

How come? Presumably, if they do make it, they'll use 88's scan and it'll look pretty similar, no?

LOL But if they do get a ton of extras, I will definitely watch 'em.

Boy talk about a load of crap , thanks for spreading the (false) negativity about a very well respected label. You probably dont even own a single bluray from them

Have you seen their release of Horror Express? The entire move barely hits around 12GB.

So ? Its the best presentation the film has. Throwing technical information means zilch as long as it looks good, and its considered a good release. But if you want to open your own label, license the movie, look at the elements , by all means please show us how its done !

Sorry, but Horror Express IS indeed a crap release when compared to today's Blu-ray standards. Compare the DVD's compression vs Severin's Blu-ray. Click

This has more to do with growing pains (aka poor encoding) and a poor source. Every studio has their misses, especially when they are new to a format.

I dig Severin but video encoding has never really been their forte. I'd be surprised if 88's disc didn't look better (assuming they're from the same master and 88 really does go forward with scanning the negative).

Sorry but it IS NOT a crap release. Compression "smession" i along with many other collectors are happy with the way it looks, but I forget this is forum where we get all these nitpickers that think they can do a better job. .

It might be the best version of Horror Express currently available, but the encode is crap by Blu-ray standards, period. Not helped by a disappointing HD master either. I'm grateful regardless until something better comes along. But every label can make mistakes, the important thing is that they don't keep making the same ones. So I'm not passing judgement and I think criticising the Severin version of Burial Ground before anyone has even seen it is a bit insane.

If it was coming from someone like VCI though, I think it would be fair to assume crapness.

Severin's Blu Rays of Dead Kids and Patrick have a 'urine tint'. The DVDs from Synapse look much better.

That's cool for you, try watching it on a projector. You can't unsee issues when you actually know what to look for. I figured you would throw a when someone disagrees with thee almighty one. Have fun cheerleading, Severin pats you on the head.

BTW: If encoding were my profession, I undoubtedly would do better. It sure wouldn't be hard to top that mess.

The print they used looked pretty good actually, but the atrociously low bit-rate and poor compression made it a very poor release.

Do you even understand how compression affects an image? Apparently not by your comment, "Compression smession". As if that doesn't matter. So a 12GB file is adequate for a high-definition bluray? Funny how no other studio thinks so.

I can do (and have done) a better job with compression using handbrake.
