Okay, so... there's a *rumor* that these will be true HD transfers NOT from Fortune Star. Don't know much more though

EDIT: Okay, now there's a chance it may still be the Fortune Star masters... so I guess this post just canceled itself out. Ugh. Hopefully I'll find out something more concrete.

Also rumours that The Protector will also contain the HK cut done by Jackie.
See here....http://www.cityonfire.com/jackie-cha...shout-factory/

Lets hope so

I would be fantastic if the HK version is included. I already own it on DVD, but it could really need an upgrade.

Well, I sent a message to Shout Factory, via their Facebook page, and this was the response:

"Yes, that's accurate. The Hong Kong cut will be a bonus feature."

Of course, this is vague, as this could mean it's just a rip of the Universe Laser DVD, for all we know. Hopefully Fortune Star has a master of the HK cut sitting around somewhere for at least a decent standard def transfer... lord knows asking for an HD version of the HK cut would be a miracle!

Special Features for the Blu-ray Edition: For Crime Story: Interview with director Kirk Wong, deleted scenes and theatrical trailers. Bummer that the HK version is SD only, but I will still buy it.

The DVDs I own of Crime Story and The Protector (am. Ed.) have some extras not on this release so I guess I'll make my own set of Blu-rays and DVDs.

Hmm, the Crime Story extras sound suspiciously similar to the Dragon Dynasty DVD. However, the extras for The Protector (excluding the HK cut) sound brand new. It'll be interesting (controversial?) to hear Glickenhaus' side of the stories behind the making of the film. We all know Chan had issues with him.

Japanese blu has the HK cut (in SD, I believe) as well as an alternate Japanese "hybrid" cut which combines footage from both US and HK cuts with rarely seen Japanese outtakes/credits sequence. Too bad nothing is subtitled. Quite frankly, no matter which cut u watch, Protector is a lousy movie. But the real meat on the bones here is Jackie's re-shot final showdown vs. Bill Wallace which is like night and day compared to US version. kudos to Shout Factory for including Jackie's preferred cut.

We found a master in the UK. We didn't rip it from a disc.
It still doesn't look great as its an old transfer.

I only own the Killer Meteors on VCD, so if they release a decent uncut transfer with a Mandarin track, then I might get it. (Even though the movie is quite bad)

Already have New Fist of Fury on DVD.

EDIT: If Amazon is correct about the runtimes it seems like it's the 1980 version of New Fist of Fury that is included. That is 40 mins. shorter than the 1976 version.

Still more promising than the Hong Kong DVD for the HK cut!

Most likely a Fortune Star master, as they decided to use that cut. No idea why, as Fortune Star normally tried to obtain the longest cuts of films to master... just look at the extended/alternate cuts of Dragon Lord, Police Story 2, and Game of Death 2.

This is a Timeless Media Group budget release, not a Shout Factory title.

It also says PG-13, which New Fist of Fury obviously is not, if the "twist" ending is anything to go by

Not one i will be buying..here's the first review i have seen....
http://hkfilm.net/dvdrevs/jackiedouble.htm
As it looks like an upscale (Fortune Star to blame as opposed to Shout Factory) and as i have the Jackie Chan cut of The Protector on DVD anyway, i will give this a miss...

Is this a 2 disc set or both movies in 1 disc? If is only a 1 disc set, I'll have to pass since I dont subscribe to the walmart budget style of this release. I personaly upgrated to Blu to get the absolute best and not these type of double feature releases.

DAMN IT! That's it, as long as Fortune Star continues to supply companies with these "HD" masters that aren't HD (Bruce Lee's three completed Hong Kong movies, aside), I'm not buying them if I see their logo. We've tried to tell Shout! that they're upscaled/upconverted, but they insist continually that they're not, and Fortune Star is blatantly lying to them when supplying them with the masters.

Done, just... done.

Just confirms its a poor upscale...anyone from Shout Factory care to comment on why these were used?

After reading a couple of reviews I will probably end up keeping my DVDs instead of buying this.
