Lionsgate titles are hit or miss, but usually WILL NOT be region coded.

Will tell you next week. My copy has been shipped so I'll probably get it next week. However, my guess is that it is region coded. Disney usually region code their day-and-dates in USA.

Not even based on past releases of the studio that will be releasing it i.e. Columbia/Tri-Star?

to be honest i dont think it works like that... like what you're saying is that if this studio is releasing region free movies this one will automatically be like that... its a good question in itself.. but sorry its still not enough to give a definitive answer

I think it does you just have to look at http://bluray.liesinc.net/ and see a trend between what studios releases are region free and region locked. Generally all Paramounts films were region free, Fox are region locked, Warner region free. Sony mainly region free.

Rough guidelines:
Neutral studios release region free discs.
Exclusive studios have the day-and-dates region coded, everything else region free.

However there are exceptions and here are a little bit more specific information studio by studio:

Sony: Only day-and-dates are region coded, however some older releases was region coded. For Releases in Europe and Australia, all releases are region free (like Spider Man 3 for example that even is released sooner in Australia and is region free.)
Disney: Only day-and-dates are region coded, however some older releases was region coded.
Lionsgate: Have a mix of region coded and region free discs. Will probably only region code their newer in the future.
Fox: Have only released region coded discs in USA but have almost only released region free discs in Europe and Australia lately.
MGM: Have some region free discs but have followed Fox otherwise.
Paramount: All discs are region free.
Warner: All discs are region free.
New Line: Only day-and-dates are region coded.
Starz/Anchor Bay: Have only released region free discs.
Magnonlia Pictures: Mostly region free discs but have some region coded also.
R&B Films: All discs are region free.
Image Entertainment: All discs are region free.
Eagle Rock Entertainment: All discs are region free.
BBS Video: All discs are region free.

In Europe are even more exclusive Blu-ray distributors region free.

no, actly I got titles from Disney, Fox, Warner, and Sony. The only one out of nine that is region coded is Warner's Phantom of The Opera (Region B).

Eragon is stated as region B, but works in my Japanese PS3

Warner has not released Phantom of The Opera in Europe. It's not a Warner title in Europe. In UK it's released by Entertainment in Video and in Germany it's released by Concorde. The German version is region free and Entertainment in Video has started to release region free discs since Lucky Number Slevin and U-571.

ALL Warner titles are region free!

Eragon is released by Fox and it was the second disc released by them that was region free. Almost all titles released by them in Europe and Australia after it has been region free.

I see just checked the disc and its case, and you are right. I doubt warner will release phantom by itself. Rather disappointed that it's region coded, meaning I can't use my main PS3 (Japanese) to watch it. I have to make switch to my UK PS3 first involving disconnecting 5 cables.

You should have bought the US-version of Phantom of the Opera which is region free and released by Warner.

But I do know what you mean. I have a Swedish Region B PS3 and one Hong Kong Region A PS3. I only have one or two region B coded movies out of about 50 but it bothers me that I can't play all in my Playstation 3 from Hong Kong.

I do dislike region coding and thats the reason I own both a region A and a region B-player.

OK. I own 2 PS3 (one Japanese, one European/UK), meaning, I am dual-region. I use Japanese PS3 most of the time due to my games are japanese. I got to make a switch to UK PS3 if I want to watch phantom of the opera, or use my laptop (equipped with internal BD and external HD DVD drive).

I can switch the region of the drive to C, which means I will be triple region, but Region C does not have significant release. So, I stick with B.
