Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal: Disc Replacement Program

Today I went to four different stores and they had the same titles as last week.
Does that mean they get new stock every two weeks or so?

So, there was a wave right around Black Friday (November); another in January; another in March; and the most recent around the beginning of May. His first post also has links to the titles that have shown up in the various waves since he began tracking those last year. Note that some stuff shows up across multiple waves (like Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Robocop); some stuff shows up once and never again; and some stuff may randomly pop up again years after first being seen.
With each wave, there's an official release date (which is always a Friday) with each wave and stores will range widely in adhering to this. In my area, some stores get them out a week BEFORE that date. Others may be two weeks after that date before they get them out.
There's also no consistency on how those shipments will be put out. Many will put them in the item of the week bin. Some will only put them in electronics (or elsewhere in the store). And some will do a combination -- for example, one store in my area always has them out early in Electronics and then on the official sale date, moves all the stock to the item of the week bin.
If you routinely visit this thread, you'll usually see a flutter of activity around a wave with folks starting to report finding stuff a week or two before the official date of release.
Also, just be aware that not all titles make it to all regions or stores and some are super rare. During this wave, I think I came across single copies of titles like Driven, Marco Polo, The Editor, Backcountry, and The Company You Keep. Others were also fairly rare with maybe only 2 copies total (Chromeskull, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, 5 Flights Up). And some titles were fairly prevalent and had multiple copies across all stores I visited (such as A.D.: The Bible Continues, Brotherhood of Blades, Revolt, and The Water Diviner).

Sucks because I was looking forward to watching that movie.
EDIT: other disc I checked works, so it’s not my player.

I'm just guessing but if we were certain you could just pick up a copy with the latter number for a copy that would work on your player if you could find one. As I bought 2 copies with the two different numbers on them. Some players had problems with the recalled version while others played it fine.

If it makes any difference, there was a UPC sticker over the plastic wrap. The actual UPC on the case has a different set of numbers than the UPC sticker on the wrap.
(I know you're referring to catalogue numbers, not UPC numbers. Just trying to figure out the variables here.)
Either way, it's really sleazy of Broad Green Pictures that the bad ones weren't recalled but were instead sent to DT. Tired of this crap happening over and over.

That's 3 bucks wasted on faulty discs. (2 AWITW, Weirdsville.) ****in' ******* companies not recalling these.

Well, it turns out the disc is defective. Bad authoring, I guess. Around the start of Chapter 9, the disc freezes. Opened and tried the other copy. Same thing. I then tried one of them on my XBOX. Like the Sony blu player, it froze on the XBOX, too.
It is a Magnolia title. And I am disappointed now. There is no blu ray release of the film. A lot of the one star Amazon reviews report this same issue with the disc freezing.

It locks up at scene 9. Trying later scenes from the main menu also results in a lockup. I did find the movie on PlutoTV so am finishing it up now.

I also tried it on my region free Sony, and it just said there was no disc in the drive. Goodbye one dollar.

In my case, the menu plays fine but I can't get the movie to play after I select it from the menu. When I try to go directly to Scene 1 through the menu, it starts playing but the movie hangs briefly about every 30 seconds until everything freezes around the 7th minute. I've tried 2 different players, and the result is the same.
The DVD looks brand new but has those light color variations on the playable surface. Seems to be the same issue that other users have reported, although in their case it doesn't seem to prevent a DVD from playing correctly. Not sure whether this slight discoloration is causing the specific issue I'm seeing.

What you all doing? Exchanging it?

No such luck. The disc wasn't even recognized.
I should've known better than to open it after all the horror stories in this thread, but returning a $1 movie is more trouble than it's worth and I don't mind having a spare clear case.
What a pity that it doesn't work, because the packaging is actually really nice. It looks really slick with the aforementioned clear case and inner artwork.
Is there a way to get a replacement disc?

I did look at the director's website and City Lights, horrible website - nothing and I doubt there is a disc replacement - but if someone really wants to try... good luck!!! but this looks like a hopeless hopeless hopeless cause

City Lights - again!!! I think from here on, I shall instantly reject all City Lights titles from DT selections.
My opinion (up to Round 3): 2/10 Pointless, no reason to ever watch; it's saved from 1/10 only because there is simplistic plot and there is a narrative that works, but a utter belly-flopper of pure mediocrity.

My bad. I have Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Family Dollar in my town and I can never keep them straight. Now that you've reminded me which one Dollar Tree is, I'm sad, because they don't carry DVDs so I doubt they'll ever have these.
Well, if the stores around me actually have these one day, I'll be sure to pick up The War at Home and An Innocent Man (both would be blind buys, but for a buck, why not )
