Denmark Naiera's 108" living room theatre

Specifications:

Projector: JVC X30
Scaler: Lumagen RadianceXD
Screen: Lissau TrueColor 108"
Amplifier: Creek Evolution 100A
Blu-ray player: Oppo BDP-103
Speakers: DLS R55
DAC: 2 Musical Fidelity M1 DAC and 1 Stello DA100 Signature
Music server and player: Mac Mini
Network streaming player: Pioneer N-50AE (for internet radio)
Retro scaler: Open Source Scan Converter
Consoles: Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, PS3, Xbox 360, Neo Geo AES, Nintendo Switch, SNES Classic Mini
Video streaming: Apple TV 4K, Roku Ultra 4660

I stopped using the receiver a while ago because of some very bad interference I was getting (a loud, low-pitched buzzing tone), which made it impossible to enjoy anything. The only thing that would make it go away was not using the receiver. Instead, I use analogue from the Oppo to the amp, while running more devices straight to the scaler, from where I have a coaxial cable going through one of the DACs. For a while, I had only one DAC, and switching between music server sound and scaler was really annoying, as the M1 doesn't have a remote. I originally sold my XRGB-mini to get an Open Source Scan Converter, but decided to spend that money on an extra, used M1 DAC, so now I don't have to get up from my couch to switch inputs I was also getting some serious jolts of static electricity, so switching that shit was bloody nerve wracking! The Musical Fidelity M1 DAC is half hi-fi size, so they both fit on the same shelf, which looks pretty decent.

Since my cable company stopped sending any sort of radio signal (converted from digital audio broadcast to analogue, so it had all the cool digital stations, but of course lacked the sound quality possible with a real analogue source) out, I'd been using iTunes on the Mac mini to listen to radio through the internet. This proved to be unreliable, and radio needs to be more convenient than having to turn on the peej to see what's wrong, so as I had the opportunity (financially speaking), I ordered the Pioneer N50A network streaming player. This model had just gone OOP, so I had to wait for the N50AE, which I was finally able to pick up yesterday. The phone app is a bit cumbersome, but I get the same quality radio stream as before, and I can fix whatever issue should turn up without having to turn on the projector.

I spent the money originally meant for the OSSC on an extra DAC, but some recent luck (same thing that got me the top new 27" iMac with full RAM upgrade, fastest processor and 1TB SSD, a Herman Miller Aeron and the aforementioned Pioneer streamer) allowed me to pre-pay for one that should be here within a month-ish I've trimmed some consoles from the setup, but if I need to, I can always get them out again, of course.

Old introduction in the spoiler below.

[Show spoiler]I moved a few weeks ago, in large part cuz I wanted a serious setup. Turns out the living room was almost perfect for a 108" screen and a JVC X30 projector. The room still needs accoustic adjustment, and I've bought some of the grey stuff they hang in studios that'll go up soon, hopefully this weekend. The carpet on the floor helped a lot. The shelves to the right of the screen hold, I'd say, about 2/3 of my live action Blu-ray collection. Only 11mm covers, no slip covers and no ex-rental stickers from Blockbuster is the concept The Hitchcock collection can stay until I've finished with it though.

It has, of course, been professionally calibrated. The computer was connected to both the sensor in front of the screen and my Lumagen scaler. The guy is ISF, THX and so on certified, so he knows what he's doing. He even developed the screen I have in cooperation with the Danish manufacturer. The result is as good as 100% correct colour reproduction. You could colour grade a movie in my living room! I think that sort of result is pretty boss for a setup that's not too far out of reach for the average Joe. I was lucky getting the scaler used for about $1000 though.

I still have some moving mess to deal with, and the wall to the left of the screen will be adorned with some shelves where the Mac Mini will have its place one day. The looong HDMI cable going from the scaler to the projector will be dealt with appropriately soon.

Bought a new tuner today

I hated the old one and this one matches my amplifier. It's only analogue but that's the only thing that comes out of my wall anyway. It was rather expensive, but I got a good price since I'm their most awesomest costumer (I wish ), and it'd been on display in their window for years. The MSRP is $500 and I've never had such an expensive tuner before. Before the Cambridge I had old, used Sony and Denon tuners that were rather low end.

Now with better cabling, a fancy new shelf and some more of the acoustic stuff on the back wall. I really think doubling the area covered by that stuff today made a difference. The shelf holds about 420 anime dvd's.
