Default Pitch Perfect 2 Review Thread

Universal has already moved on a Sequel. Rebel Wilson and Skyler Astin have already had meeting with Universal.

Quote:
This past October saw the release of Universal Picture's Pitch Perfect, a musical comedy centering around collegiate Acapella groups. While the film took in a modest $63.9 million at the box office, it wasn't one of the biggest monetary hits of the year. But it proved to be one of the more original movies released in 2012, and has quickly gained a huge fan following, making it one of the few true cult films in recent memory. That cult is sure to grow even bigger as the film hits Blu-ray and DVD this week.

It makes sense that Universal would want a sequel, and possibly a franchise. We might have to wait and see how well the home video release does before we hear any official word on Pitch Perfect 2, but we recently talked with Skylar Astin about the possibilities for a sequel, and he revealed that he and star Rebel Wilson are in talks with Universal about a follow-up.

"I do have a meeting with a Universal representative next week. And I know that Rebel Wilson had hers last weekend. It's definitely a talking point."

He then talked about what he'd like to see in Pitch Perfect 2, and the music that might be featured.

"I think that I am willing to do anything. I like to collaborate. If my voice will be heard, than I will do some research and think about it. There are definitely times where I am listening to the radio, and I think, "That would be awesome. I would love to sing that." It's this weird karaoke fantasy that I might someday get to live out on the big screen. Then again, I know there are so many politics in that decision-making. Also relevance. If we film this next year, and it doesn't come out for another year and a half, will that song still be popular? Will it be over played? I think they did such a perfect job. The music landed so perfectly when it came out the first time, I can't imagine, if the same people are involved, that lightening won't strike twice. I will sing whatever they want me to sing."

I liked the second one, but really doesn't need a sequel, that's just me.

But I guess people loved that Fat Amy character so much they are gonna capitalize on it

I just got done watching the first Pitch Perfect and I was honestly pleasantly surprised. I'm not huge on chick flicks but it wasn't really the case with Pitch Perfect. Quite an enjoyable film. Very formulaic, but still enjoyable. I'll watch the sequel.

Only one I could see this getting a sequel if it's straight to dvd/blu ray.

Here's the "perfect" title for it.

Pitch Perfect 2: Revenge Of The Pitch Slap.

Something tells me if they can't get the original cast back, they'll just spit out a direct-to-video sequel every 2 years like the Bring It On franchise, which is what Pitch Perfect reminds me of.

All they need to do for a straight to video sequel is do the exact same formula, new girls, new songs, etc.

IT'S HAPPENING!!!!!

Quote:
‘Pitch Perfect 2′ Is Officially Happening in 2015

Aca-heck yes! Universal confirms they’re planning a ‘Pitch Perfect 2,’ and that news is so great that we don’t even care that we can’t see it for another couple years or so.

‘Pitch Perfect‘ was the surprise movie of 2012 — a great ensemble cast including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow in a movie about a college a capella group trying to win a competition long-dominated by men. The film was funny, clever and totally adorable, and the music was fantastic. It surprised everyone who went into it thinking it was just another project to capitalize on the popularity of ‘Glee.’

Thanks to the film’s success and the outstanding response to the ‘Pitch Perfect’ reunion at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards over the weekend, Universal has announced they’re moving forward with ‘Pitch Perfect 2.’ Slashfilm got the scoop at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where Universal head Adam Fogelson announced plans for the sequel to be released in 2015. ‘Pitch Perfect’ writer Kay Cannon will return to pen the script, but there’s no information on actors who will or won’t be returning as of yet — and it may be a while before we hear much more. We’d find it hard to believe that Kendrick, Wilson and Snow wouldn’t be on board with this.

Aca-awesome news, you guys!

Oh yay... so now they can feature even more painfully unfunny Rebel Wilson. ugh....

still, if Anna Kendrick is in it, I would want to see it. No Anna, no interest.

but I agree, I bet it goes the Bring it on route. Anna wont return, and instead it will feature Rebel and other lesser characters, then sequels after that it will be all no-names.

Why so far away though? I'm sure they could shoot it this fall for a summer 2014 release?

Also, Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow have said on their respective twitters they want to be in the sequel and talks were going well.

Yeah, I'll watch it if Anna Kendrick is in it, but only if. Truthfully, she's the only reason I wanted to even see the first one.

Rebel Wilson is god awful and repulsive, so I have reservations about this.
