Australia Foyle's War

Hi all,

I wanted to point out for the community that Icon has now released a twelve-disc box set of the first seven series of the UK crime drama Foyle's War, starring Michael Kitchen. Although some of the releases are upscaled, I understand the latter ones (6 and 7) are not, and Australia is currently the only place to pick up Blu-ray versions of the series.

The individual sets are notoriously expensive (usually more than AU $40 each), so I was surprised to see that the collected set of seven series is less than AU $90--comparatively a huge bargain.

https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/...blu-ray/681474

In the UK, the series is numbered differently, and there Australian Series 8 (which is UK Series 7) will be out on DVD only on 13 May. There do not appear to be any plans for any UK Blu-ray releases.

In the US, where the UK numbering is also used, the latest series is up for pre-order on Blu-ray, but it has not been aired yet, and there is no set release date.

Have you seen any of it? Keen to check it out, but wondering how the upscaled footage will look.

I have not, but I must assume the video is at least slightly better, and the audio, according to reviews of the first and third sets, is lossless, so that alone is a worthy upgrade.

Thanks for mentioning that, I had no idea of the sale, but it looks like I'll be able to cancel my order and re-order at the new price.

Just go to the JB web site, add it to your cart and select US as the shipping destination. It will tell you the total price. You don't need to register with them to do this. Then you can currency convert to figure out the US dollars.

Thanks atexp80!

Is JB a reputable & trusty co., is this Foyle's War a good $$ IYO?

Is this particular Australian set a good buy IYO? Is it English friendly & what region code is it?

Would you get it based on your recommendations? Can you tell me anything about this set?

Sorry for all the questions, but I think you would be able to give me these answers!

Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't speak as to the set itself. As for JB, they are Australia's largest retailer in the entertainment industry and your best bet in terms of importing. Their postage coasts are very reasonable and are far less than what our national postage carrier actually charges.

Hopefully someone else can speak to the quality of the set for you.

You do realize Australian are English speakers right? And that Foyle's War is a British show, and British people are also English speakers?

Yes I know, I just thought being available from this Australian web-site, since it's the only bd set(series 1-7) out there, may have been a foreign import.

Sorry, I didn't know if it was an foreign import w/sub-titles or not, maybe I was just being a little na´ve.

Sorry for any confusion. Any way, can anyone tell me about(quality, PQ, AQ, etc.) this specific bd set of Foyle's War series 1-7?

It would be a major investment $$ wise for me!
Thanks again!

What with the Black Friday deal on Amazon.com yesterday for Set 7, I ordered this, also at a reduced price, from JB Hifi.

Very much looking forward to receiving it and checking out the quality.

If this set is too expensive to import one of the people could buy it from jb hifi and send it to you if they would like, JB HiFi is the best shop in Australia for dvd's games and blu rays.

It's much cheaper to buy from them direct. Our postage costs via Australia Post are ridiculous. JB charges about $8 for the first item to ship to the US which is incredibly cheap.

Some deflating news:

Australian Series 8 (UK/US Set 7) has finally been released...on DVD only. The EAN is 9397911311594.

It looks like Icon either lost or gave up the license, and the DVD set has been released by...Acorn.

Acorn, who in the UK, have not released any Foyle's War BDs.

Acorn, who in the US, is the only source for this series of Foyle's War on Blu-ray...in the world.
