If there's anything I missed or any specific time marks for screens for any of the titles I'll be glad to throw them up. I will say though that all 4 look better in motion then they do in the screenshots.

I'm going to make this as fast and painless as possible: DVDBeaver cap on top, Madlost1's cap on the bottom.

[Show spoiler]

KAM & RONSON BLU-RAY (HONG KONG)

SHOUT FACTORY BLU-RAY (USA)

If these screenshots are in any way, shape or form even close to accurate:
ALL OF THESE ARE ****ING UPSCALED SD MASTERS.

This isn't me being judgmental of a shoddy HD master, either; there's no "maybe" about this one, and the Kam & Ronson disc should be all the proof anyone needs that the caps in this thread, reportedly of the Shout Factory set, ARE NOT from an actual High Definition master. They honestly look like NTSC Digibeta sources - and not particularly reference tapes, at that.

The Hong Kong and German Blu-ray releases of THE BIG BOSS, FIST OF FURY and WAY OF THE DRAGON were all pulled from a legitimate HD master (though GAME OF DEATH is an upscale everywhere but Japan - which, to be fair, has its own issues). Making matters even worse is that these are virtually the only films available on Blu-ray from K&R that aren't upscaled from SD sources!

Did you get upscales of the DVD masters? Did you even bother to check? Or is this all some sort of cruel joke on Madlost1's part, despite the fact that all of his photos look legit?

We need answers on this one, and we need them now. Shout Factory is selling a very expensive box set for titles all of us have probably bought multiple times by now (I know I have!), and either Madlost1 is lying through his teeth to make you look bad, took caps of the DVDs by mistake (which seems horribly unlikely), or Shout Factory has completely failed to present these films using the best materials available.

Cliffy, you got some 'splainin to do...

Thanks for the screengrabs. That was what I was waiting for. They actually look worse than the K&R blus.
I really thought Shout went all out on this one. Guess I was wrong.

madlost1, thanks for the screenshots. Given their past mediocre HK blu-rays, I can't say I'm surprised they managed to release a blu-ray that looks worse than the K&R counterpart. The Shout Big Boss blu-ray definitely looks like an upscale.

Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to do the screen shots!

Out of interest what software did you use to do the caps?

Confirming these are upscales is going to make me click the 'Cancel' button on Amazon

I will sit tight until someone confirms this!

However I must say the colour on Way of the Dragon looks better in my opinion! doesn't have that tint to it!

Stop backtracking! I don't care how good the colour is if it's an upscale, and not a very good one at that (look at all the sharpening!). Stay firm and hold your course, sir.

We'll find out what's what soon enough, though my finger's hovering over the cancel button for sure. I warned Shout! that Bruce Lee's ghost would be waiting to kick their asses if they ****ed this up. Hark - is that the sound of nunchucks I hear?

As a fan of SF's work, I'll wait for them to comment before making a decision.
Is there any chance, since Madlost said his extras discs were mislabled, that the BD/dvd of each movie was mislabled? All 4 films, in the set, have a BD copy and a dvd copy? Perhaps those caps were from a dvd that was labled as a BD?
That would be a quick, clean and a huge relief.
Just throwing that out there.

Hehe I won't back down when $80+ are concerned!

Just saying if they weren't upscales then the colour changes would be a huge step up from what we have seen!

Has someone contacted Shout to ask the question? Will be interesting to see how they comment, and how they explain why they issued us with upscales (if they are upscales) when HD sources were available!

They were definitely the blus.

I use dvdpasskey to decrypt the discs and then use vlc and it's snapshot function to grab them. It saves as a png and on top of that all I do is upload them to imageshack and link to here.

EDIT: Sorry if I screwed up with how I took them. I've been taking my screens like that for a couple years now. I'll be glad to do them again using a different method tonight if someone recommends one.
