Wow! I'm going to be broke on October 14. That's a lot of good stuff coming out on the 13th.

I'm all for Count Yorga but at the price point they're selling. Fright Night was worth it for all the extras and knowing it would sell out. This one I might have to ask for Christmas.

Any news if they own the rights to the sequel as well?

I would bite (ha!) if it included both the YORGAs, especially since I prefer the sequel to the slow moving original, so no sale for me. Maybe someone in Europe will release the double or each individually at a more reasonable price.

I saw both of the YORGA films first run when I was a little kid and they scared me sleepless!

Scream Factory has just announced the sequel for October 13.

Quote:
*NEW TITLE ANNOUNCE!**

As some of you may already know, this past weekend our friends over at Twilight Time DVD Label announced that they would be bringing the 1970 AIP chiller COUNT YORGA, VAMPYRE to Blu-ray on 10/13. Well, if you canít get enough of the bloodsucking shenanigans then step right up to watch its sequel! We have the rights to its 1971 follow-up THE RETURN OF COUNT YORGA, and will also be releasing it on Blu-ray on 10/13. Pre-order links will go up next month.

Great news!

Of course it would have been much better if both films could have been combined in one package but it sounds like there was no chance of that.

Thanks to Scream for getting out the sequel!!

So odd that these are split between two companies. It seems that it would've been in the best interest of both MGM and either Scream or Twilight to license them to the same company.

Both films should have been a Scream release just like the two Blacula films. You just know that Scream would have done that if Twilight Time didn't stick their beak in. So now instead of paying 18 to 20 bucks for both films it will be more like 50! I guess I should be happy both are going to be available on the Blu-ray format. Sometimes though I wish Twilight Time would just go away. But I guess they are the future model of buying in the physical format. Ah, the laser disc days of price gouging come back to haunt me. I think I'll gamble on this one. I'll wait and see if this hits a TT sale next year and I'll pick up the sequel when it's dirt cheap. Or I'll wait and see if both films become available overseas.

Thats how deals work, TT may have outbid Shout for Count Yorga, just like Kino outbid Shout on some titles or picked up titles Shout passed on. There are a number of factors on who gets what titles.
Those arent the only two titles split among the labels by the way (not meaning TT or Shout specifically) ...........

Well, yeah, that is true, but that doesn't mean that it is the best thing for the films or the fans.

With Kino and Scream increasing their volume, it has reduced the viability of Twilight Time's model IMO...I've gone back and for on them. At first I *hated* their model, but as I saw their quality I came to not only accept them, but to favor them. But with the way these MGM discs are being dumped everywhere now, it seems a bit silly for random titles to cost me $10-15 more just because Twilight Time got them instead of someone else.

At least with Scream you can safely wait for a sale. That might not be a safe bet for the Twilight Time release - you probably at least have to keep an eye out to see how fast the pre-orders sell.

This is one instance where I feel the sequel is highly superior to the original, better script, better production values, better pacing. Both are fun, but if you can only afford one, go with the sequel which is standalone and does not require any familiarity with the first film.

I'm holding off on both of these to see if Arrow does a double in the UK.

You make a great point about the random titles. These Count Yorga releases are a good lesson. The whole "if it weren't for TT, this would not get released on Blu-ray" argument does not apply here. Scream would have picked this one up and released it with the sequel. No doubt.

Given the mild response on this thread, I think this title will hang around for a little bit. At least enough time to see if other releases spring up from across the pond.

Nice, I was expecting this to be closer to bare bones, just maybe a trailer and isolated score.
