So 2.8k would be listed if it was shot that way?
But that would have had a 2k finish normally would it not?

Yes, if the master was 4K or higher. A good example of this is Skyfall as it was shot in 2.8K, but given a 4K master.

a movie shot in 2.8K and mastered in 4K will still be superior to one shot in 2K and mastered in 2K....

even if it was shot with substandard (Arri) cameras

which is kind of too bad honestly.

UltraHD Blu Ray also opens the opportunity to publish disks with the full 2K master ratio on them instead of the downscaled 1080x1920 version currently on blurays.

How's that? UHD Blu has two resolutions, 1920x1080 and 3840x2160. Best you could hope for is a UHD upscale from the 2K master that utilises those precious extra 128 horizontal pixels (or a mere 78 in the case of flat 1.85) but even so, going from actual 2K to UHD isn't directly proportional so the potential is there for scaling artefacts. I'd rather they upscaled 2K to 4K 'like for like' and then crop the master down to UHD res.

That sucks. Anyone know how SPECTRE was shot? And Casino Royale for that matter?
