Default Pre-Amp Sub needed? Huh?

I got myself a lovely Yamaha RXV379 a couple of weeks ago and I've got it all working apart from my subwoofer.

It apparently only takes pre-amp subs, and my Gale subwoofer is not pre-amped, so I don't know what to do.

This is the back of my receiver.

Any help would be appreciated.

If your sub has a line in or L/R input with RCA connector(s) and it has a power cord that plugs into the wall for power, your all set to use that connector. All you need is a sub-woofer interconnect cable.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Oh, man. You've lost me already.

It IS plugged into the wall. I know that.

I will post a picture of the back of my Sub when I get home from work. Maybe you can tell me what the hell I am supposed to do from there, but none of the available connections are compatible.

Sorry, you didn't mention that before. All you need is the subwoofer cable to connect it to the sub. Can you post a picture of the rear of your sub, then I can tell you exactly how to connect it up if you didn't understand from my original post.

Good luck.

I'm usually quite savvy when it comes to my home theatre but I've always had problems with my subwoofer for some reason.

Yep, saw that. I was hoping for a model. Seems like what you said, he just needs a cable. Ba-da-bing Ba-da-boom.

frequency to the max, level/volume to the mid and connect the input from your receiver to either L or R input (doesn't make a difference) and run your calibration. adjust level to taste after calibration if you so choose.

enjoy!

But both ends of my connecting wires are Red/White and there's no Red/White out from the Sub.

Using a RED/WHITE stereo RCA cable (the one you have) Just use the RED wire on both ends. Connect one End to the Black (Subwoofer Pre-Out) on your stereo and connect the other end to the RED (Line Input) on your Sub. Once connected follow Solarrdadds advice and enjoy.

Thanks,
T

Okay, but once again I have to go work so I won't be able to test this for another 13 hours.

Thanks though, I will let y'all know how this goes.

Tried this.

It works, sort of.

I've sent a test pattern through it and it's very hollow and crackly.

Your Gale should work in that receiver.

Believe it or not - for some reason the Gale's prefer using the left one alone or just use a Y-cable. Don't ask me why.....I haven't figured it out myself. I have a small Gale sub/sat in my bed room.

quite believable. some subs do tell you that if you don't have a dedicated L&R output (RCA) from your receiver/pre-amp, they specify which input to use for what's known as the "sub-sum" which in his case is the single sub pre-out. that I have seen before. whichever the case may be, if the sub is working correctly and the receiver/sub-pre out is working correctly he should be in business.

hope your doing well buddy!
