Question XBox One / S / X (XB1) - 3D playback

The PS4 still doesn't have this functionality, but MS' new platform will have it.

Edit: Corrected for accuracy.

I'm glad to see one of the two major consoles actually adding it. Hopefully, this will give Sony the push to go on and add it to the PS4.

That's great news!
Now maybe Sony will add 3DBD playback to the PS4.

I guarantee that these forums are going to have a lot of people posting stuff like:
"I put a 3D Blu-ray in my Xbone and it won't play. Do I need a 3D TV to watch 3D Blu-rays?"

Just for the sake of accuracy, the OP is wrong as per availability.

Afaik, the B3D update will occur next week - for early access users-.

There is no specific date (though august is probable) for the general XB1 population to have this function.

Now hopefully, that anouncement will light a fire under Sony to roll out more significant updates for the PS4, as they have been quite lax in that regard imo.

PS4 has been so disappointing thus far imho. A couple games available...MS pushing the industry lol. Sony must be on to much coke and vay-k in Vegas or sumthinz.

I just ran the Blu-ray app on my XB1 and it asked to update, and go figure it now plays 3D blu-rays. I thought I would have to wait for a system update, but it looks like I got lucky with them now playing. Anybody else with an XB1 might want to go check to see if theirs updated as well.

I only tried it briefly with The Avengers and was very happy with it.

one thing I noticed after trying some 3d discs on my new Xbox One last night - you can have something "snapped" on the side, and 3d will still play in the slightly pushed-back main window.

My only issue with it is the noise of the drive. My Blu-Ray player is much quieter.

Noise has always been an issue with Microsoft. I remember the Xbox 360 being much noisier than the PS3. I don't have an XB1, so I can't compare the noise of it to the PS4.

I have mine on with an external powered on as well for hours & don't hear anything... gaming.. I don't recall hearing much fan noise when I tried the BD app but now that others have mentioned it I may just throw a disc in it soon & have a listen.

So far the Xbox One has been the most quiet of all my gaming gear.

If it Bitstreamed and I could change the region encoding, I'd ditch my standalone player.

Default XBox One S

I just purchased and received one of these today. I've never heard it mentioned that it plays 3d Blu-ray, but it does. I just got it because my local rental place has 3 times the titles than for other machines, and it plays 4k if I get a new TV eventually. I also noticed that, for at least my LG plasma, it happily accepts the video from the 4k disk. (I know it isn't in the increased resolution). This would be great if they would do more 4k with 3d releases. I won't need to worry about whether a release has a regular blu or not.

Just thought I would add, for anyone interested, that when searching Vudu, the xbox doesn't 'see' the 3d movies. I switched over to my LG to confirm that Vudu didn't drop them.

The Vudu app doesn't support 3D playback so they won't show up in that app.

Question XBOX One X

Does anyone know if XBOX One X (scorpio edition or regular one) will support 3D blu-ray playback?

I've just got my G6 from LG and looking for 4K+3D player. I'm a big fan of 3d movies so 3d support is critical.

That's weird, it looks the same as the VUDU app on my TV. I wonder why they would leave that out but support 3d blu ray. Not that it matters, but they are so close to having everything I want in one box.
