Saw it in 3D, so I'll probably buy the 3D.

My movie content review, from the Movies sub-forum...

Of all of the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor has always been the most difficult one for me to take seriously. Thor: Ragnarok embraces this notion and runs with it to great result.

After overcoming a misadventure during his search for the Infinity Stones, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returns to his home, Asgard, only to find that it faces grave danger at the hands of his previously-imprisoned sister. Hela, the Goddess of Death, who is played by Cate Blanchett at her absolute sexiest, overtakes him and his adopted brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and hurls both of them into space as she rushes to take over their realm. Thor lands on a trash heap planet and finds himself held captive for the purpose of serving as a fighter in a garish gladiator match, where he faces none other than fellow Avenger, the Hulk. Thor, Loki, the Hulk, and a mysterious bounty hunter may be the only possible hope for Asgard, as long as they do not destroy one another first.

Thor: Ragnarok proudly wears the influence of the 1980 sci-fi film, Flash Gordon, on its sleeve, and, like that film, it delivers a good-natured story with a visually spectacular kaleidoscope of colors, a rousing use of rock music, and just the right blend of humor and earnestness. This is the type of movie where the filmmakers seem to have thrown anything and everything against the wall to see what sticks, while still somehow creating a coherent and fast-paced work that flies by despite its 130-minute run time. This is an amazing-looking movie, and it prods me one step closer to wanting to make the leap from Blu-rays to 4K UHD Blu-rays for home viewing, despite my trepidation regarding that new format.

Marvel Studios continues to impress me. Every time I start to believe that their serial movie universe is about to collapse under its own weight, they prove me wrong by producing wildly exciting and endlessly rewatchable titles like this one. Thor: Ragnarok does not make any dramatic intellectual demands on its audience, but it is a joy to watch and it provides a thrill ride that makes mainstream cinema a fun place to be right now.

No 3D, No Purchase and No Pre-Order. No excuse not to release this in the US on Blu-Ray 3D after putting the last two Thor movies on Blu-Ray 3D.

Curious what the exclusives will be... When does Best Buy usually start listing the Steelbook?

Can we expect this on February 27 next year, or do you think they'll try to get it out prior to the release of Black Panther?

Doctor Strange came out on November 4, 2016 and was released on Blu-ray February 28, 2017. I'd say we'll see it later February/early March maybe.

Guardians 2 BD came out after Spidey Homecoming released in theaters, so I don't think Marvel cares about that.

I hear you, but it's early. GotG2 3D wasn't announced til late. It'll probably be a retailer-exclusive.

Weird that BB haven't announced their Steelbook yet. Wonder if they hit some snag with Disney/Marvel re: inclusion of the 3D disc.

Very fun movie, easily the best of the 3 Thor movies and also the best of the MCU movies this year. GOTG2 & Spider-Man: Homecoming were boring and forgettable.

Either February 20th or the 27th sound about right considering the other MCU films released in November (Thor: TDW and Doctor Strange) were released on BD in late February.
