Got the Target 4K exclusive but don't want to watch it until my Zavvi 3D comes in. I did not see it in theaters so I want to see it in 3D the first time but the delayed 3D release sucks!

Looks like the Brazilian version is now available on eBay for a more reasonable price:

Something is amiss here... The title and information in the listing says "Region Free" but the back of the package only shows the "Region A" logo. Either the listing is wrong or the picture is not the actual picture of the product being sold.

Exactly!

For all the hype and sales talk, 4k simply isnt a night and day guaranteed improvement on 2d blu ray upscaled, and for me not a patch on good 3d.

Not saying some 4k doesnt beat some 3d, but good 3d smashes 4k

And re the atmos audio, very few have the actual proper atmos set up with ceiling speakers in sufficient numbers anyway

Ugh it really stinks that zavvi's 3D steelbook isn't releasing until December. So far away!
But I'm gonna wait.. I love their steelbook and have never had issues with them.

It's region free. For whatever reason, Disney's Brazilian releases only show the Region A logo. But this is 100% region free. And the picture in the listing is an actual picture of the product being sold.

Ugh. Was thinking about waiting until that guy ^ (the Brazilian seller on eBay) had it in stock but thought I'd be clever and preorder from Livraria Cultura. Got a message on release day saying that there was an issue and they didn't have any stock yet and it could take 5 days. They better ship it with next day delivery, lol.

Nice review from SpareChange, IMAX shots are back!

I'm definitely ordering a UK copy, sounds like the 3D is used to great effect.

Mostly strong 3D, it's one of Marvel's best for 3D.

Agree it's fairly strong, and the IMAX scenes help a great deal. Overall I think 3D is still better on the original Ant-Man (one of my reference 3D titles). Movie itself is better too, but this sequel is almost as fun (I didn't care for the Ghost sub-plot much, but the tongue-in-cheek humor/jokes throughout are quite funny). Here's a nice 3D scene (great depth) at the beginning of the movie w/the younger Michael Douglas & Michelle Pfeiffer characters...

Best 3D scenes are when they go sub-atomic . Loved all the IMAX scenes; wanted more (wish the whole movie was presented this way)...

Another of my favorites w/3D + IMAX is the Ant-Man & Wasp tag-team fight with Sonny (Walton Goggins) & his goons (00:24:56 to 00:26:36)...

The DTS-HD MA 7.1 track is solid, but not reference quality. I also have the 4K version of the movie with Dolby ATMOS and like other Disney titles, I found it marginally better than the 3D Blu-ray DTS-MA 7.1 version. In fact, if your AVR does DTS Neural:X, the effect w/this seems indistinguishable from the ATMOS track.

Overall, a solid 3D addition to the library... looking forward to watching it again (as I ended up enjoying the original Ant-Man more in subsequent viewings as well).

Cool still frames, thanks HDM_fan. Glad you enjoyed it!

I believe the 3D layering is more consistently stronger in Ant-Man 2, but I only saw it one time in 3D theaters, but then immediately watched Ant-Man 1 blu ray 3D to compare. Ant-Man 1 has some medium to low medium 3D shots here and there, where in Ant Man and the Wasp, I saw mostly strong 3D throughout, with some high medium 3D shots. But even the dialog shots during uneventful moments shined in 3D, as a 3D movie should.

Neural X does such a good job, I think on some titles it has more interesting things going on in the ceiling speakers than the actual Atmos tracks (sometimes by FAR). I think some film mixing guys are just way too conservative with Atmos and X. Hell, I even noticed that Neural X sounded better in some respects with the Auro-3D demo than the actual Auro-3D decoding here (e.g. The VOG speaker was much more prominent with Neural X phantom than the Auro Phantom for some reason). Blade Runner 2049 sounded almost identical with Atmos/Auro-3D (Atmos had rear channel used lightly, but Auro seemed to use the ceiling speakers a little better in some spots) and Neural X was darn close just using the 7-channel base to create similar effects. Compared to the Atmos trailer demos throwing things all over the place, they're all disappointing by comparison to some extent, I suppose.

The problem with Disney Atmos is they seem to be using a fixed channel layout of 7.1.4 instead of objects like they're supposed to. That really robs higher-end layouts of extra speakers. It's one reason I chose to combine decoders (that gets around the DTS X 11-channel limit as well).

You're probably right... I'm going by memory for the original Ant-Man. Watched it last earlier this year, but not very recently. Need to compare more one after the other.

Agree. I use Neural:X for everything that isn't native ATMOS or DTS:X.

Some more screengrabs of memorable 3D shots from the sequel (there are plenty)...

And, watch through the initial animated closing credits...

...followed by a live sequence. Plus, there's a brief one at the very end, after the scrolling credits.

Received the Hong Kong version yesterday and watched the disc last night. It's incredible! Near reference-quality... right up there with Thor: Ragnarok, in my opinion. All of the IMAX-framed scenes really stand out. Even the non-action, dialogue-centric scenes have very nice depth and separation throughout. The screenshots that HDM_fan posted above capture some of the best moments. Be sure to watch through the end credits sequence, as that too features some great 3D moments.

I'd give the 3D a solid 4.5/5. There are a few scenes here and there that don't benefit much from 3D, but the main action scenes are truly a sight to behold. Highly recommended!

That had some fantastic depth, it looked like one shot was a mile deep. Kinda like the scene in Dr Strange where they jump off the building. Had to rewind that one...
