United Kingdom Grizzly (1976) UK 88Films

88 Films are releasing this on 14th May in the UK. There was no thread for this release of the film so I thought I'd start one. It doesn't appear there are any extras included with this release but it's a reasonable price and I'm assuming that it is the same transfer that Scorpion put out for their limited release in the US.

I don't know if they will include the filtered and unfiltered versions on this disc or whether any further work has been done with the transfer but I have pre-ordered anyway. This is one of those films that is a guilty pleasure for me as I saw it originally in theatres when it first came out. I was 9 at the time and as a 9 year old I couldn't see it with those critical adult eyes of today so it's definitely just a nostalgia trip. Good memories and all that. It's pretty cheesy and silly I suppose but I still get a kick out of it just for the pure hell of it. Will be interested to see how it looks when released as the only other version I ever owned of this was the 2 disc Shriek DVD from several years ago. In any case, it's good for a laugh.

I've always loved Grizzly. Like you I saw it at the cinema when I was a kid (IIRC it was on a double bill with Drive-In). My mother would take me to see monster movies while my dad took my brother to see Swiss Family Robinson ones

Looking forward to this release. I also have the Shriek Show DVD and the Scorpion BD but I'll be picking this one up as well.

Yeah, it was great seeing this first time around in a packed theatre. I think you're right about the double bill with Drive-In, but I honestly don't remember that film for some reason. I never wanted to see the family type movies so it was always my brother who took me to these kinds of films. My parents were never interested. Same with Jaws. I saw that first time around too (the year before) and it started my love of scary movies etc.

How is the Scorpion release version btw? Is it worth picking up also?

Reminds me of when I was 8(ish) and how my Gran would rent me the likes of Alien, Company of Wolves, Halloween and, erm, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes while my Dad would insist on something from the kid's/family section.

Haha, grandparents were ace - one of the first movies I remember watching, and frequently, was The Terminator, thanks to them

This is free to watch on amazon Prime. Loads of these 88Films are. In fact watch about 3-4 of them and the postage savings if you’re a regular buyer of movies (which I’d youre here you probably are) and you’ve covered the prime membership.

Or sign up for 30 days free and watch one a day and save £100ssss

Yes, but that 4k transfer release will only be available from Ronin apparently who doesn't ship to Europe. Therefore that version is only available in the US/Canada. Unless they hold back a few copies for Diabolik or Amazon US which, at the moment, it doesn't seem they are going to.

EDIT: Scorpion Releasing just confirmed their 4k transfer release will be available from Diabolik for us International customers who are interested

You got some sort of beef with 88?

Seems a little unfair to suggest a free streaming service over the physical medium on a BD forum.

Not looking for an argument or having a pop, just curious.

Yes! Just saw his message over on the other thread. Good news! Will definitely pick up a copy of that version for sure as I regularly import and have multi-region capability so am not limited

just information. Iíve not suggested not buying but if these are blind buys you can watch for free first. Many times Iíve started watching something on prime and thought this is really good and bought it. Weíre collectors right, so if seeing this first makes you want it in your collection whatís wrong. Donít tell me anyone here bothers buying to watch once and never again. If I did that I wouldnít own half my collection having grown up watching movies.

Not 88 related but I watched Premuim Rush on prime and loved it so bought it the same day, for extras and to know I can watch probably in better quality whenever. For me I had to have its spine showing in my collection. It then prompted me to buy Don Jon cause I thought JGL was really good in Premium Rush.
Only the other day I asked on here 88 direct about their cult label championing the releases having bought almost all of them and asking for more.

No need to think Iíve an agenda. Thanks.

I saw Grizzly at the cinema when I was a kid too. It would make a really good double bill with Prophecy, another cheesy classic from the 70s!

Just ordered this myself. Was a little disappointed though that 2nd class post is the only option for shipping. I would have gone for something faster if it were available. Still, it was pretty cheap for a new release and I love the reversible cover. Was pleasantly surprised to see that someone has received their copy already. The street date is not until 14 May according to their website. So, that's very nice and early
