For anybody in Region B or C land that was unsure about it being region free, after testing it on my region free player on both settings; I can confirm Avatar is region free.

Thank you.

I never gave much thought to animation or cartoons needing a pilot - I must look into those for my favourite shows.

A commentary only audio track is strange - you miss out on the full effect of the episode. Maybe they couldn't supply the orinal audio for legal reasons? Could be that the issue is resolved now - if the distributor had a mind to.

I'm noticing the colors in City of Walls and Secrets seem like they're darker than they should be
The previously on avatar clips on the Tales of Ba Sing Se from the same episode look a lot brighter

I noticed this as well, the contrast seems very high.

They put those on the blu-ray?

Why?

Most shows with them do

It's only from 206 onward though; the episodes that had them when they originally aired

Sozin's comet apparently doesn't have the series-wide one though which kinda sucks

For those who don't have this yet.
The Korra set is currently $27.99 Canadian (approx. $21.92 US) on Amazon.ca,
[Show spoiler]which is $11 less than what I paid for my copy less than a year ago.
On the bright side, my copy came with both the slipbox and the mini-artbook.

EDIT: It's now back to $35 Canadian. (approx. $27.35 US)

I find those intros incredibly annoying. As absent-minded as I am about most other things I remember what happens on a TV show - otherwise I wouldn't be watching.

Plus they often tend to spoil events in the episode anyway.

How do they spoil events in the episode? They are recaps of what happened before.

Because they let you know that they're going to pick up on a storyline that might have left off half-a-dozen episodes ago. I prefer not to know ANYTHING.

^ I completely understand what you mean here. Watching "previously on" bits in other shows gives hints of other characters who might be popping back up, lessening the surprise when they do.

Also, I'm less concerned about "previously on" in the case of box sets of entire series like this. If I was watching it weekly, then fine, it's a nice recap (or in the case of Avatar in its original run, sometimes months between new episodes!), but here it will mostly be binge re-watching, so no reminders are really needed.

A pretty good example is that The Guru/Crossroads of Destiny "previously on avatar" segment flashes back to
[Show spoiler]Roku telling Aang that dying in the avatar state would end the reincarnation cycle
a clip from the first half of season 1
Leaves very little question as to why they'd revisit it

I'm someone that usually likes having Previous/next episode clips on home releases for completion's sake but they definitely make showing the show to someone who hasn't seen it before, which I have been, a pain
Even moreso on the DVDs where they aren't their own chapter that can be skipped past

Fair enough. I never thought about it like that. That doesn't bother me too much to be honest but I take your point.

On the Smallville dvds in a menu you can turn on/off the recaps. Maybe they should of done that.

That is truly a dick move. I remember trying to skip past the "previously on" recaps on the 24 DVDs, and they'd launch me about seven minutes into the damn episode!

Some of FUNimation's releases have a Marathon feature that I'm surprised isn't more common

This set is the same way. No chapter breaks on the intro or previously on segments.

I'm only half way on the second disc and the PQ is solid. There's common SD to HD upscale characteristics like banding, sometimes textures will have a random pixel showing here and there, and some aliasing. Since I never owned the DVDs nor have I seen the show since it's broadcast, it's a recommended purchase just based on the strength of the show alone and being shelf friendly.
