Probably so. I just think ethernet ports and cables are kind of passe. Also, if you're just using it as a CD player there would be no reason to connect it to the internet, not really.

I just saw this review pop up:

https://hometheaterreview.com/sony-i...s-ubp-x1100es/

Pretty basic look at the player but thought some might want to check it out.

I realize that Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+ are optional HDR formats approved by the BDA and only HDR10 is mandatory for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players.

In the ideal world all 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players from every brand and model should automatically switch to Dolby Vision HDR when the display is Dolby Vision HDR and when the 4K Blu-ray disc is Dolby Vision HDR. A option to turn off Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+ should result in the Blu-ray player playing the HDR10 core.

Hopefully any 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player on the market that does not automatically switch to Dolby Vision HDR when a native Dolby Vision HDR optical disc is played, will receive a firmware update to fix the issue.

Native Dolby Vision HDR discs should automatically play as Dolby Vision HDR, and native HDR10+ discs should play as HDR10+ if the display supports it. Native HDR10 discs should automatically switch to HDR10.

One of the reasons why some consumers do not mess around with 4K Ultra HD equipment is because of all these issues with HDR not working like it is suppose to. Firmware updates can fix this issue if the industry agrees on how Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+ should be automatically engaged.

Its not a review, only a introduction, mostly consisting of press release statement.

Still have the x1100ES AVforums review online to look at, for the USA it just got here.

Guys, I just talked to Vincent Teoh, his 1100 review unit does NOT do auto DV switching. I don’t know how my review unit can do auto switching. I will personally buy one and test it again. I will keep you guys updated with the result. Give me about 2 weeks as I’m not in the position to add more things to be reviewed on my schedule.

Much appreciated. If you could make a video of it auto switching or NOT auto switching.

Just an update (as I can only be actively researching this via chats with my friends), there is another guy in the US who confirmed that I AM WRONG. I also contacted my source to return my review unit to double check my (perhaps faulty) finding.

^ I'm liking your posts, but not because I am opposed to auto DV detection!

Maybe you have the latest firmware update or a different BETA firmware. That would explain the difference if Sony changed the way Dolby Vison HDR is processed.

I definitely was using a beta firmware. I would be especially ticked off of the auto DV is removed and/or not eventually be available on both the 1100 and 800m2

It appears we still have some dispute about DV auto switching with this player.

Vincent, in his review, is lamenting the fact that you have to manually switch to DV in the user menu.

Yes. That’s what he told me before he uploaded his review. He confirmed that he uses actual firmware whereas I used the beta firmware. The thing is, why Sony put a function which later then be deleted from the actual firmware.

I have contacted my Sony contact asking for confirmation especially since during the 2 sessions of dealer show in Canada (at 2 separate events) they also told the dealers re: auto DV too. Also as I mentioned above, I’m requesting for the 1100 to be sent to me again so I can re-check that functionality WITHOUT using tge installed beta firmware.

Because if they end up not using auto DV, I also have to change my review of the 1100 before it’s published in 2 weeks.

Oh wow, some HDMI handshake timing issues they have to debug so they remove it, hope they get the not too subtle hint to mend their ways.

No Auto DV is a colossal failure on Sony’s part imo.

Not sure why Sony won't implement automatic DV switching but it's definitely a very bad idea on their part.

I also don't understand why SOny continues to only output DD from Netflix. FOr many years now they have been outputting DD with Netflix. While outputting DD+ from other apps. If they can output DD+ from other apps they should be able to output DD+ from Netflix, like other devices do.

Sony will fix the DV implementation. Too much backslash to ignore. It's just a matter of time.

And they already (accidentally?) sent a review unit with autoDV beta firmware and trained more than a couple dozen dealers stating auto DV too.

Here’s hoping

Agreed. I keep debating between upgrading to one of the new Sony players or the Oppo 203. Iím definitely leaning towards the Oppo for this reason. Even if they are now using the same chip sets for video.

Chipset means nothing if they are not programmed properly. The same 2 litre engine in Golf, Golf GTI and Golf R used with three different programs yields three majorly different results.
