I see this now available for pre-order on Amazon.fr Wonder if there's English subs on the 120 minute version? Even if not, it means a UK/US release might not be too far off with a 4k UHD scan now available.
On my list of 4k UHDs to die for. Could this be the first Criterion 4k release? |

Going by the Amazon page it doesn't look like there are English subs. I've never seen this movie, is the French audio the definitive version? Or is the English audio good enough that it might be worth it if there are no English subs for the French audio?

No, the movie was filmed in both languages as they shot it. There are a few French films that did this in the 60s and 70s to target the international English market, they are not dubs but two versions of the same movie filmed at the same time.
some examples: The Sicilian Clan (1969) English/French versions both on Blu-ray The Brain (1969) English version only on VHS / French version on Blu-ray Rider On The Rain (1970) English/French versions both on Blu-ray The Burglars (1971) English/French versions both on Blu-ray |

Yes, but I imagine the French audio is better as it's the actor's native language? Or is the English audio just as good? I don't want to waste my money if the French audio is a lot better but has no English subtitles.

I received my copy although I'm not going to be hugely helpful as I don't own a UHD player yet so can't comment on the contents of that disc. However, the digibook package is seriously cool. The blu-ray contains both the French and English versions of the film, roughly taking about 20GB of space each with the French version the slightly bigger of the two. Both 24fps. Not watched yet but skipped through quickly and the PQ looks better than the previous Park Circus / M6 blu-rays to my eyes. DVD is 25fps and contains the French version only and a couple of special features. No English subtitles on the blu-ray or DVD. According to the back cover, the UHD probably only contains the French version and the special features and is not English friendly, but someone else will hopefully confirm this.

Received my copy.
No English subs or audio on the 4K disc. 4K image is really nice. Thick grain. Colors are sharp and bright. Will watch the Blu-ray though as I’ve been meaning to see this for years. |

A few poor quality and overly sharpened cell phone pics, believe me the image quality is great in motion on the disc and again these are cell phone pics so they look a bit off.
Showing I was able to apply .srt subtitle files by USB for the 4K UHD disc and get English subtitles. As others have noted on the Parasite thread it only works on OPPPO and Cambridge players which are both no longer manufactured and prices are redic. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=319109&page=6 Subtitle Option without the USB inserted into player. 1.jpg Once USB is inserted and you press subtitle button you now get the final option of OTHER - That is the USB 2.jpg English Subtitles 3.jpg Subtitle options changed color - You can change to multiple colors and borders, alter size and position. 4.jpg |

I couldn't resist at the current price and saw no better future option anyway, so I grabbed this now. My French should do with the French subs with this one, but I intend to save it all to disk once the drives become larger anyway...
The only issue I noticed so far, is the chroma not being perfect and I noticed it in motion already (#9 is one of the more prominent examples - you'll notice it with the hair here in particular), but other than that, this looks great. I also noticed the pngs being very large. Didn't compare and don't intend to compare with the BD. The HDR is the opposite of Sony kind (i.e. not very bright). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've ordered the 4k disc TWICE from Amazon UK, both of them freeze up in the middle of the movie. The first seller was Culture Empire, the second was Amazon Eu Sarl, but they both have the same address so I think they're both from the same source. They were both brand new, unopened. On the 4k disc I see a little line that won't go away when I rub it. The bluray disc has a smudge on it, though it plays fine. I returned the first one, but the shipping from the US back to France is so expensive, I'm just going to keep the second one I bought. I did see one review on Amazon that said their disc froze. It's a shame because the 4k looks so gorgeous. I'm thinking about buying it a third time from a seller on ebay. Haven't had this problem since the days of DVD.

Saw this only now...
Reproducible freeze (as in stops playing completely) at 54:01 here as well (plays fine if I navigate to a few seconds after that). Will check via Panasonic (didn't watch the movie yet) later and would expect it to "just" freeze there instead (which would suck already). Guess it's a general problem with the disc. |
