Default 2022 Sony Master Series A90K (42" and 48") [Owners' & Discussion Thread]

Master Series A90K (42" and 48" models) OLED TV features:

Quote:
  • Cognitive Processor XR understands how humans see and hear, providing a revolutionary experience that completely immerses viewers in their favourite content.
  • XR OLED Contrast Pro adjusts brightness for higher peaks in glare and deeper blacks in shadow while XR Triluminos Pro enables a wider palette to reproduce each colour with the subtle differences seen in the real world.
  • BRAVIA CORE Calibrated Mode
  • Acoustic Surface Audio+™ uses special actuators to turn the screen into a multi-channel speaker so the sound matches precisely with what’s on screen. The TV includes two large actuators and two subwoofers.
  • Acoustic Center Sync optimises sound output from the TV and soundbar for a better audio experience.
  • BRAVIA CAM accessory compatible and Ambient Optimization Pro
  • Quick access to an array of content and services with Google TV.
  • Hands-free voice
  • Premium remote
  • Minimalist one slate design with Seamless Edge bezel embraces the screen in a single pane of glass that’s naturally elegant and keeps viewers focused on the picture without distraction.
  • Flexible two-way stand provides different stand position options, including a standard position to eliminate distractions and a sound bar position to elevate the TV and integrate a soundbar system. Thanks to the adjustable stand with aluminium centre plate, users can place the TV and soundbar on a desktop so it can be used as a gaming monitor.

Hi Robert,

When can we expect the A90K 48" to drop? I am very interested in this panel.

Does anyone know if the a90K will be available in larger sizes , or is that what the a80k is for?

@SpinDoctor, Sony's new 2022 A90K is only available in 48" and 42". You are correct that for larger Sony 2022 OLED class TVs you have the new A80K series and the carryover A90J.

If you are interested in 55" or 65" class you have Sony's new A95K Master Series QD OLED TVs that we just started shipping today.

Question A question for Robert

Already topping our list of the best LG TVs you can buy, the new 03.20.24 system software for the flagship TVs brings a number of key improvements, the most significant being the addition of Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail technology.

The feature is an all-new picture enhancement system that aims to reveal extra details in especially dark scenes.
Will the Sonys, particularly the A90K, be getting this Dolby Vision update at some point?

Thanks

Does anyone have any tips for how to remove motion processing on these? I can turn off Cinemotion, Motion Flow And BFI, but that doesn't entirely fix the problem. Movement looked better with BFI on, but the flickering quickly drove me crazy.

Upgrading isn't without drawbacks it seems...

Was it just 24p content you were having issues with? I noticed you tried Game Mode to help, which I don't think should be necessary. I wonder if there's an issue with the player to TV chain?

Also looking at the specs, it's a 100hz panel, so there's always going to be some interpolation.

Interesting. Yeah, I did put it in game mode which seems to be the best adjustment so far and the setup is pretty straightforward. I'm just playing back Blu-rays from a Region-free Sony BDP-S3700 with a direct line to the TV itself. Movement seems to be the most noticeable on Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I do want to put in Jaws tomorrow and run through some spots to see if anything stands out.

It is telling that the problem doesn't seem to crop up as often with streaming using the TV itself - only discs being played on the blu-ray player.

If you can try some 24hz content from a USB stick plugged into your TV.

I was thinking about returning my LG C2 and getting the a90k. The LG is really nice but is giving me headaches with all the inputs and audio. Plus I seen the 48"on display at at a high end store and the A90K looks and feels more premium and better built than the LG. The picture looks more natural and life like. What are your thoughts?

I would get the A9S instead if you don't care about HDMI 2.1 or any gaming features. It's cheaper, brighter, has a better screen finish, better remote, and it's not run on Google TV.
