And you have to check for dents, scratches, spine slashes, loose discs...

I got my steelbook just now.

The good: Arrived in a box with air pillows as opposed to the usual flimsy mailer.

The bad: The steelbook had dents/scratches that were hidden behind the front of the j-card.

I'm probably not going to try to return it but it's really frustrating when I've ordered steelbooks from other countries and not a single one has arrived dented meanwhile 1/3 of US domestic deliveries always have some kind of issue.

I preordered this back in February, and Best Buy emailed me yesterday to let me know my copy of West Side Story was going to be delivered today between 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM via UPS.

It's now past 4:30 PM. On the Best Buy website, my order is listed as "Ready for shipment. Arrives today."

Meanwhile, on the UPS website, the story is "Label Made; No Delivery Estimate."

Seriously?

Now, I rarely buy "multiples" of the same movie at the same time (as in, multiples of the same title for the different packaging), but I made an exception of Spielberg's West Side Story. I know my Target order arrives tomorrow via the Postal Service, and Amazon's is due on Thursday. So I'm not worried about not getting a set or seeing the movie. (I have Disney+ and I watched it last week, so it's not that I can't see it.)

What I am annoyed by is the disconnect from reality on the part of Best Buy. How can a retailer tell me that an order is ready for shipment (which I buy), that it will get here today (which I don't buy), when the shipper that handles the delivery says a label was printed but the package is not in a plane or on a truck?

Thankfully my curbside pickup at local store was fine (local store listed two avail late last night).

OTOH, my second copy of Green Mile was a mess again, first had BB gun marks all over front of steel and same for second (same story for literally 80% of my steels mailordered from BB the last year and a half, not sure what is going on at their regional warehouse or the post office right next to that, other poorly packed stuff mostly arrives OK, but almost never from BB). And about to do a fourth try for an Eternals (so far first was bent in half, second and third were local store pickup but both had bum UHD discs riddled with errors and backed in arc bump 'scratches' and various steelbooks factory defects).

The steel looks pretty cool. It's not a simple finish, but a touch of physical depth to it and mixes of matte and coated shiny.

Received mine yesterday packaged in a box. Unfortunately it looks like someone dropped a hammer on the steelbook at the warehouse. If only the steelbook had been as pristine as the box it arrived in. I don't get it. The item is clearly damaged. Why the fook are you shipping me a damaged item, BB!

Best Buy sucks.

As recently as last night, their online agent assured me that yes, my order had shipped from Dublin, GA and that it would arrive by 9:30 PM at my house in Lithia.

By the time I went to bed, UPS had not delivered my package. In fact, on its website, the order had a tracking number but it had not been given a package to deliver.

This morning, I chatted with yet another online agent, and then they confessed that something was amiss and that my only option was in-store pickup or a refund, as there were no steelbook copies available to reship.

I have mobility issues (which is why I order stuff online), so I told them I'll wait 72 hours for my steelbook to materialize, and then just accept a refund.

I mean, seriously. What's the point of pre-ordering an item, a pricey one at that, and then being told, "Sorry but we didn't send it...."?

At least my Target Art Edition order will get here today. And eventually, my Amazon order will, too.

I am in the same boat.
Got an email that my preorder was shipping from GA and was going to arrive Tuesday.
Now UPS has “Label made; no Delivery Estimate.”
All the stores nearby are out of stock.
I'm hoping it was at least shipped and it is just late.
I’m dreading the “Your order has been canceled” email.

Yup, the same thing is happening to me. Although now it's telling me "the delivery date will be provided as soon as possible" as opposed to the "label made; no delivery estimate" of yesterday. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad sign. I'm guessing someone severely underestimated the demand for this title. Thank God I've already satisfied my itch with this via Disney+, (and have access to the "making of" on YouTube) otherwise I'd be going bananas waiting for this thing.

What I find strange is that when this movie was first announced, the reaction from many on these forums (which I suppose is a reflection of the society at large) was either "But I love the 1961 version! We don't need a remake!" or "I don't like remakes!" And of course, when the new Marvel Spider-Man movie was out, audiences flocked to see it and ignored West Side Story.

Now that the movie is out on home media, suddenly everyone wants it...or Buena Vista Home Entertainment didn't send out enough units to stores or online retailers.

I convinced my caregiver to go to Best Buy and pick my order up, but I really wanted to avoid inconveniencing anyone. That was the whole point of pre-ordering it online.

Since the movie is also streaming on D+ and HBOMax, it may have been hard to estimate supply more accurately.

All I know is that I'm glad to hear that the movie is catching on with folks selling it out everywhere, even if it means I have to spring for the Target exclusive instead. Best movie of last year, remake or no.

Anyone know what the Target exclusive materials are? As in, is it like a digibook or just a regular blu ray sleeve? Can't tell by the photos.

I actually see a couple copies on auction at ebay for under cost. And a few more at close to item+tax+shipping cost.

(I also have a spare copy not yet picked up from my local store. I was gonna cancel it, but maybe I'll hold off a few days and see if anyone is still stuck without getting one for a good price and offer it up at cost, if need be to pay forward what another member did for me regarding the Ghostbusters set that UPS lost/stole and which he sold to me at cost his spare.)

The Art Edition consists of a regular 4K Blu-ray black case with the Tony/Maria photo (as in the slipcover for the regular 4K Blu-ray), as well as one of those snazzy slipcovers with pockets to hold the small foil-material posters that make up the "Art" part.

Contents-wise, we get the 2K and 4K Blu-ray discs.

I suspected that there are people in the Best Buy warehouses/UPS stations who are swiping merchandise for third-party sellers or selling steelbooks themselves. I even suggested that possibility to the BB customer service rep today when I told them I'll wait a week, then cancel my order if by then my steelbook is a no-show.

Updated to Add: Best Buy says that there is not enough inventory for reshipments, the Brandon store is out of this item and since UPS is not updating the information regarding the shipment, it offers me a refund. Since I don't have too many alternatives (I am not going to eBay to try and get West Side Story and reward the flaw in the system that caused this inconvenience, and the Lakeland store is too far for me to ask my housemates to drive to), I have accepted the refund. Life's too short to agonize over a packaging variant. I have the Target one and will get the Amazon one as my "insurance" set.

And, after all that angst and aggravation, Best Buy, UPS, or a combination of both (it's hard to determine what happened), came through: my steelbook arrived today.

It turns out that after my last update, UPS finally emailed me last night to let me know that my package was being flown to the Tampa Bay area from Albany, Georgia and that it would arrive here between 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM. The UPS site gave itself a slightly larger delivery window - before 7 PM - but was still set for tonight.

Cutting to the chase: Of course, the refund thing is moot. And no, my steelbook does not have dents, scratches, or a damaged spine. I removed the j-card and checked for damage. None was found.

Shippers need to be more careful when it comes to updating consumers about tracking numbers or delays. Just putting up a "shipping label printed" advisory and not following up is not acceptable.
