Seeing as how the swan song thread is so popular that it's had 50 replies already, may as well do a debut thread too.
So who had the best? Connery in Dr. No, Moore in Live and Let Die, Dalton in The Living Daylights, Brosnan in GoldenEye, or Craig in Casino Royale? |

This is a no brainer. George Lazenby in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service, truly the finest produced James Bond film in the series and the last exceptional one.

I haven't watched Lazenby's movie, and with the 4K boxset probably coming out within two years, why bother? Craig from the four others. I don't like any of his other Bond movies, though. Barbara Broccoli, Robert Wade and Neil Purvis all need to go. They suck.

I went with Dalton, but could have easily voted for the others. All five had exceptional debuts as Bond.

Lazenby should have been included but there’s no question that Connery in Dr. No is my choice. He laid the groundwork for not only the character in that film but for every action hero who casually kills the bad guys, makes wisecracks, bangs the girls, etc. Dr. No may be rough around the edges but it’s a stunning debut not just for Connery but the entire series.

Because you can enjoy and learn to appreciate the film now AND when it comes to 4K and you can actually be qualified to participate in discussions like this.

All the Bonds had great entrance movies! In fact I felt that The Living Daylights and Goldeneye were the best movies for Dalton and Brosnan. And Casino Royale was good enough that I saw it three times in theaters.

I saw CASINO ROYALE twice in theaters, I was so impressed with it. It's still one of my favorite Bond films.

Connery's debut was a game changer, Lazenby's continues to be underrated, Brosnan's was smooth and cool as ice, but Craig is the winner imo. What a power punch. Dalton and Moore's were kinda meh to be honest. Dalton kicked it up with LtK and Moore really didn't get in the groove until TSWLM.

For me it's a close call between Goldeneye and Casino Royale, but ultimately gave it to Casino Royale (mainly because it has the better score). Martin Campbell directed 2 of the best Bond movies IMO, the best films for Brosnan and Craig.
Dr. No is good, but not one of Connery's best. Still a hell of a way to kick off this great franchise. Living Daylights I really enjoy, and consider it one of the more underrated Bond films. Live and Let Die would be at the bottom of Bond debut movies. I like this one as well, but the other actors just had better debut films. |

Toss up between Moore, Craig, and Brosnan.
I picked Brosnan because he was at the top of his game in Goldeneye and never reached those heights again |

GoldenEye. Always GoldenEye. Living Daylights, Casino Royale and Secret Service were pretty good too. Dr No was a bit rough, From Russia With Love was better, and Live and Let Die was terrible.

Tough, because Live and Let Die is the only one I didn't much care for. But I went for Connery because he had no legacy to build on and nailed it right out the gate. From his first moment on screen he's iconic and as great as they others were no one can compete with that.
