Default Center Chanel position

Alright, so I have 2 options for my center channel. I can either A) put it in front of the TV and have it be about a foot below ear height, or B) put it on the next lower shelf on my TV stand and it'll be about 8 inches off the ground and 2 feet below the listening level. Which would be better?

See I'd put it on my TV, but the back is curved, plus it's about 2 feet above the listening position. So it really sounds like the dialogue and stuff is coming from up high, especially from mono signals.

I bought this because my TV slopes in the back. Sits perfect on top of my TV and I point my Center down alittle. Works great.

I put mine on its side on top of the tv. I had tape down a few small brackets so the speaker was level. I just made sure that the side speakers are at the same height and it sounds great.

put it below and point it up a hair toward the listener. having the speaker on the same plane or a little behind is better positioning that putting the speaker infront of the tv. You want it to sound like it is coming from the TV not infront of it.

Definitely choose option A as long as it doesn't obstruct any of the viewing area. That is just about as close as anyone can get to the ideal position for a center channel.

If it's too small to sit the TV on, i would sit it in front of the tv UNLESS it blocks functionality or viewing of the TV. Or i woul sit it on top of the TV and angle it down as has been suggested. Or you could open your TV punch some holes in the glass sitting the speaker inside, then it will sound like the people really are talking? Ok that one was just silly :-)

I used to have my center on top of the TV but noticed a dramatic improvement when I moved it below the set. I would say put it in the highest position below the TV and angle it up a bit.

I have a slight problem. My center channel comes in Monday, well it is seven inches tall and around ten inches deep. I don't think I will have room where my current one is. Where should I put it? I considered moving my BDP (but where should it go) or putting a shelf above the TV. What do you think would work best?

I'd put it where your player is now. Where does the BDP vent? You could put it on the bottom underneath whatever that thing is next to the receiver.

I was thinking the same thing. That is my HD-DVR, it vents a lot so I can't put the BDP on top of it. There are no vents on the top of the BDP.

Without building something, I think that's your only option. Or buy a separate rack for your components.

Very serious...

Of course I told her the center channel was about the same size as the one that's there now originally...

I think your idea is the best option. Thanks for the feedback.

Default Large Center Speaker

I just got a Polk CS2 today. My TV sits lower than the one in picture and there is no available space below for the center, so I built a little shelf on the wall behind and just above the top of the TV. I have it angled down towards the seating. Even though my fronts are on the floor and a lot lower than the new center, everything sounds good.

I actually don't recommend puting it above the TV. I did a lot of tests and I suppose on a smaller TV it wouldn't matter. But on mine, the TV is about 5 feet tall, making the horn at about 5.5 ft off the ground. When the horn on the other speakers is only 3 feet off the ground, it sounds way wrong even with the speaker aimed at the listener. I just kept mine infront of the TV. I know one person said not to do that, but when they say not to have it in front of the TV, they mean like a foot or 2 away from the screen. Right now the front of the speaker is only 6 inches in front of the screen. There's no way to tell that it's coming from in front and not from the screen.
